So I got a bug up me to paint a model that was both a reasonable depiction of a woman adventure for HeroQuest types games and could also double as Genevieve Dieudonné from the Oldhammer novels by Jack Yeovil (actually Kim Newman), should the need arise. As should come of no surprise to anyone, finding a realistic portrayal of women in fantasy miniatures is not an easy task. Thankfully, a few companies have stepped in to help tackle this problem. I ended up going with a model from Oathsworn's Sensible Shoes line because they had the most variety and I found one that could work for multiple purposes as a fighter, thief, magic user, undead vampire, etc.
As with most of what I have been painting, she was painted almost entirely in contrast paints. It's all pretty straight forward although there were a couple of tricks I found. First, a mix of 2 parts Gryph-Charger Grey to 1 part Wyldwood makes an excellent armor wash! I also went with blonde hair since that is how Genevieve is described, even if the book covers giver he black hair. I also mixed a little Shyish Purple into the Guilliman Flesh since she is a vampire.
As far as the model itself goes, Oathsworn produced a very nice model with very little work for prepping it for painting. Additionally, it arrived from overseas in a little over a week, which is pretty amazing. So if you're in the need for a more realistic model of a woman, I highly recommend their stuff. I've also included a scale shot so you can see how they compare to Current, Middle, and Oldhammer models from GW.
