The Tome of Mystery (aka a random eBay purchase!)

So, as it happened I outbid @ManicMan for a binder full of old GW ephemera the other day, and it finally turned up. I felt a bit bad about it so thought I'd put up the contents so you can all see what was in it. I've spent the last day putting it all back in the correct order, as it was all over the place when I got it! I love these old, random collections of old paperwork, whether they're gaming related or not.

Anyway, this was the folder in question:

So, we start with the First Citadel Compendium:

Then the second one. (*this was about the only one with it's covers):

Next up the First Citadel Journal:

(and, (you've guessed it!) The Third:


And the magazines, there are about a hundred pages of White Dwarf articles, nearly all 'Eavy Metal pages or painting tutorials.




Including a couple of great spreads of the dearly missed Colin Dixon:








Not to mention Joe Dever's Tyrannaosaurus with Saxophone!


Also was a flyer for 'The Citadel Mailing Club':



Which as well as introducing the Amazons range, also had an advert for the first Games Workshop Open day at Eastwood in 1984, which I attended as I lived in the next town. What they didn't know is that we also used to cycle over there at night and rummage through the bins!


The non-GW stuff in it was minimal, but there was a complete (minus the cover) of 'Twinworld' Issue 2, a D&D fanzine from 1981.



Also a copy of the voting sheet for Games Day 1982!


Which had a fabulous drawing on the back!

Another non GW publication was a copy of Warlock Magazine No. 4.



And also Proteus No.1 which I've never even heard of. It contains a full fighting fantasy style adventure:


Whoever put this together was a fan of 'Choose Your Own Adventures', as there were a bunch in there from White Dwarf and Imagine Magazines as well:






There was also a copy of 'The Good Games Guide 1, which was an introduction to all of GW's published games:


Also contained in the Guide was a complete Rick Priestley WFB/WFRP adventure:












And finally, a GW Games catalogue for winter 1985:













So, there you go, a whole load of random bits of paper from the early-mid 1980s. Although I had most of it, (and most of it is missing the covers) it's still an interesting little collection.

Right, I'm off now to read it all!

I said don't worry about it ^_^
very nice and interesting look through stuff. In a way, shame it's not more Non-WD but at the same time, It was being sold for it's WD content.
the Binder also interests me in that, Someone who was a regular or worked at Orc's Nest maybe?
I do think there skills with a hole puncher need improving. Normally you can adjust how deep into the page the holes go so you don't clip words.

Be glad it was not mine, it would be like that but with those little hole punch reinforcement circles that obscure even more.

My father's office had "four ring" binders we used to snag when they threw them out so everything we hole punched was done with four holes and that supports the pages much better, far less tearing.

Fascinating collection of bits and pieces, it was the Orcs Nest cover that almost got me to bid! It's all the more disposable bits that I find curious these days, so the flyers and bits that got thrown away. So things like that voting sheet, brilliant bit of history. Thinking Journals I've a spare copy of the first minus cover if anyone is interested. Still after the first and third compendiums at some point to round out the collection.
