The Protonid

Hello kids,

If you had access to an unpainted Protonid - would you paint him??
And if you would and were trying to be as authentic as possible to the fellow pictured in the old RT rulebook - how would you do it? Let's say you also had access to the entire range of Nostalgia '88 paints and you were looking to get as close as possible to the original recipe?

Care to give a colorblind guy a bit of advice??

Cheers :)

Yes, absolutely would paint - and the original scheme/paint job is awesome - so yes I'd try to mirror that colour design as much as possible, but I know my limitations and wouldn't try to match exactly. I might skip the blue detailing for example.

I don't have access to the original paints so I would start with a mid brown, ink it with a strong brown ink, and then gradually use light browns/tans to highlight raised areas and more inks and washes to reinforce the crevices - mine would probably end up being darker all over as a result.

I already responded a little elsewhere, but seeing it again I feel I want to alter my response: Yes, I would paint it. I don't think I'd try to consciously imitate the original, but I don't doubt it would happen somewhat anyway. I painted my own production early RT "tyranid" (the late RT hunter slayer) in fleshy pink colors. Wouldn't worry too much about a particular line of paint. Used to paint with hobby enamels and switched directly to craft acylics and inks.
