The Games people play

Just wondering if it might be an idea to have a list of old style games, probebly both old ones and current ones that people play.

the gaming section we have battle reports and stuff and it's interesting to look at some of range of stuff, but a question might be what IS the range? A quick check says for reports and scenarios/missions, the gaming area is currently getting:
WFB [1ed, 2ed, 3ed,4ed FanEd (lead pile's Warfolk)]
Space Hulk [1st, FanEd (Lead pile's Forked Space Hulk)]
Hero Quest [Original, USA, Advance]
W40K [RT]
Mordheim [don't know versions, Warheim (Mordheim + WFB-8ED)]
StreetFighters
Firewall: 2136AD [?]
Warlord of Albion [?]
Renegade Scout [?]

the ones with [?] are ones I have no clue what they are ^_^

There are some games I play fairly regularly at the moment which I think are probably too modern and aren't really designed to go with older style, but kinda do.. My father is into Zombicide (got version 2 and Western) and it's a pretty fun game with a bit of focus on narrative (specially after the 2ed core box) but I'm not sure how much that would work on an oldhammer site. But there are clearly a range of games both modern and old which kinda fit in the 'acceptable' area..

But I'm mostly just wondering if It might be an idea to have a list of games which probably shows people which games can have battle reports and stuff written about here, and also maybe list some more modern games which people might like to check out for the same kinda style, even some which are free rules (or ones to pay for.

more Modern games I know about (other then games above) I think might be possible to add are:

* To the Strongest - [Foundry - Ancient and Medieval wargaming, Also later English Civil Wars set - Pay]
* Rules with No Name - [Bryan Ansell - Foundry - Western USA - Pay... maybe.. Streetfight is a version of them and is free and you can buy a copy of these rules, but I don't know if also free for a digital copy]
* Condottier - [Foundry - Renaissance era - Pay]
* AGGRO - [Ainsty I think - 70s Football gang skirmish rules - Pay?]
* Old West Heroes [Nick Lund - Western Skirmish - Pay]
* Flintloque [Alernative armies -Alternative black powder skirkmish game - Pay]

there are quite a few though.. And I haven't played any of them so can't really give much information or recommendations.. Though I do play The Wood by Oakbound (Fimm) which is a fantasy Skirkmish game (but can be played as army or RPG). Paid rule book. That's the main one I can think which I can recommend right now as one which fits into the more oldhammer ideas. I know there are a few Woods players here, though it's not mentioned too much

To be honest the forum is kind of quiet compared to it's heyday. I think people in the community can post battle reports as they wish - we don't need to be too hard and fast about things. So if you have a battle report that shows off your Oldhammer forces but with a modern rule set then go for it. Likewise if you play 1st edition WHFB with new figures then also have at it. I can't see many people policing this to be honest. Having said all that I don't see how To The Strongest has anything to do with Oldhammer, what with it not being fantasy and being as far removed from the style of rules as it's possible to be. Maybe give Hordes of the Things a spin instead? A similar streamlined rule set but with fantasy forces.

fair enough, like I said, I don't know it much it's just one of the rules I know of which is sold by a company that does old minis and old style minis (being Foundry after all). They might not even be the publishers of it.. Not sure ^_^

I’m only playing 40K these days but I like hearing about defunct game with miniatures rangers that might be worth exploring.

For example, I have used Kryomek vehicles in my games.

And Vor: The Maelstrom miniatures.

Warlords of Albion is a group that meets a few times a year to play Warhammer at Foundry. Usually small warband skirmish stuff with objectives and overarching narratives.

I though so but then I found conflicting information about rule sets ^_^

I run WFRP (1st ed) for my 13 year old and his 3 friends. (They love it.) Wargaming wise I exculsively run games for my campaign, 8th ed WFB but all done in a very Oldhammer style, with themed armies, campaign homebrew lists and campaign rules collated from several sources, heavily modified and much added to. The figures involved stretch from the 1970s to today.

I do find myself wondering how many others play 8th WFB. How many play it themed and 'low-ish' fantasy like ours? And what younger players of Warhammer The Old World (if that's the right name) make of our 'efforts'.

I have always been somewhat of a serial monogamist when it comes to games. 1980s = Traveller (school and home) then WFB 1st ed (home, club and universiy). 1990s = WFB then Star Wars D6, then my own 'Dream Game'. 2000's on, WFB (with WFRP set in the same campaign world).

I play classic Rogue Trader some with a friend. We play Space Hulk and Hero Quest sometimes.

But if the truth comes out, I prefer newer games for everyday play. I just use old miniatures with them.

My go-to game has been Pulp Alley. I use it for anything narrative.
If I want to have space ships shoot at each other I always use Full Thrust.

Massed combat is more of a problem. I've used some Rogue Trader with alternative unit activation and turn sequences. I've also used some StarGrunt 2.

I have some friends who really like Two Fat Lardies games like What a Tanker and Jay Wiley/Fistfull games like Galactic Heroes. We've used both with Citadel miniatures. I also like the occasional historical game like General Quarters 3 or Action Under Sail, but those probably don't apply here.
