Teddy Bear Fur Gaming Mat

I thought I'd share the results of my latest experiment in gaming mats. This one is made from teddy bear fur that has been trimmed and painted with diluted craft acryllics.

Here's the WIP post, which includes links to a bunch of resouces about making this kind of mat: http://mdarrow.blogspot.com/2015/01/the ... t-you.html

And here's the post with the finished product, a description of how I made it, and a sweet battle scene on the mat complete with musical accompaniment: http://mdarrow.blogspot.com/2015/02/the ... 4184442929

Let me know what you think!

I really like the look of that. It's got a sort of grassy heath look to it. Also the round table is novel after all those 4'x8' rectangles. Combined with the formal dining chairs, I'm imagining a party in full evening dress coming through and sitting down in a sort of Noel Coward does Realms of Chaos bash. Also, are those real dice that have been 'petrified'?

Now THAT'S a party I'd go to.

Yeah, that's my actual dining table. I live in a small apartment, so I have to use what I've got (hence my obsession with DIY storable gaming mats). It's 3.5 to 4 foot in diameter, and it has some extra leaves that I can put in to make it ovular for bigger games. I do really like the round look, though. It somehow makes the game seem both more open and more encapsulated. Somewhere I've even seen people using round boards for display games at conventions.

Yes, those dice are actual dice--I had a bunch of the big, square-cornered bicycle dice that I was using until my gaming club made a giant batch of nicer, custom dice. I got the idea from King's Miniatures (http://kingsminis.blogspot.com/), though I later realized that hers were made from foam!

Still, a fun use for some dice that I did not enjoy rolling...

That's a darn nice idea. I've been playing with a plush pile idea, but I like that one much better. Will have to investigate the resources you list. Thank you.

I have beenthinking about making a portable gaming mat recently. This looks like a good option. I think I would be tampted to do a bit of a mixed media collage though. I think some latex stones, shaved bits and flowers glues on would break it up nicely. Good tutorails though!
