Had a great time at BOYL this year, came up for Friday afternoon and most of Saturday. As ever the event is made by the people. This is only my second time going and everyone is so welcoming. Arriving to find Brother Meredith surveying the main tent we had a little wander around. It was lovely to see some faces I remembered from last year even if I needed a nudge on names. Sadly Matt Street was not among them, having passed away the previous Sunday, he'd been extremely welcoming to me the previous year and I can see why he had such firm friends in the community.
Finally got to meet up and have a good long natter with Symphonicpoet in the flesh and admire his Dreadmob in all their glory. Meet a few new faces from the forums here and generally enjoy the fact that everyone was having fun! It's infectious! So my thanks for everyone who said hello and put up with my forgetfulness!
Gaming wise kicking things off with a game of Space Fleet against the Brother Meredith kindly hosted by Golgfag1. It was actually the first time I'd played Space Fleet and I rather enjoyed it, despite having a bit of a knack for crashing into planets ... whoops ... alas Brother Meredith finished off my Eldar by ramming though my final ship in spectacular fashion and putting the xenos in their place under the heal of the Imperium!

Much admiring of the other games in progress was done. There was a lovely pimped up HeroQuest game underway, it's always been on my modelling bucket list to build a 3D HeroQuest board!

Somehow in the past I'd totally missed the Titan leg model that may ring a few bells for some. One of my all time favourite pieces. So I was rather glad to have a proper look at it.

Last year Tony Ackland showed me a sketch which was either based on the model or the model was based on it. Alas Tony's health didn't let him attend this year, so I was extra grateful for the hour or so we got to chat last year. Hopefully things will improve for the great man.
Fimm and co had finished setting up their board for the following morning and I enjoyed looking at all the little details and skill he'd poured into it

So many lovely details in the temple. I think the bell from the tower and the tiles in the main room were my favourite little touches.
Brother Meredith being the lovely chap he is drove us back into Newark where after a few minutes refreshing in the hotel I wandered round to the pub and continued the merriment!

Saturday morning in a pleasantly unexpected game I joined up this time alongside Brother Meredith in an attempt to crush the combined might of the Greenskins and Chaos filth invading the Empire of Man. The Empire having paid some Dwarves to fight alongside them. The game opened well for us with the cannons smashing the orc lines. Alas the battle swung the other way a couple of turns later when the forces of Chaos unleashed destructive vortexes across our ranks devastating them. We ended up the game at possibly a marginal Empire win, but to be fair had it continued longer I think it could still have gone either way. Brilliant fun and despite the many years since I have properly played WFB (3rd) some of it came back!

Some more admiring of games was done as many were in full swing, with just he occasional break. Kev Adams was busy in a corner sculpting faces - the terrifying visage of Golgfag1 evidently going on some model when I had a look, amazing seeing him work. In a quieter moment we can see here Diane just clarifying with Golgfag1 and Fimm exactly which Saturday they were planning to actually finish their La Maisontaal game ... that table with all the models on it, amazing stuff.

The huge road ambush game (5th WFB I think) consumed much of the tent space, so many miniatures. How none of the skeleton pikes were not broken I don't know. Loved the huge airship that appeared part way through the game.

I finished out my day playing the cool scenario created by Twisted Moon using some of the Legacy Crew miniatures. My band of scallywags had raised the Amazon's creature and were attempting to flee through the swamp pushing their boats and rafts or letting them drift with the current, only to find a party of Amazons intent on recovering the stolen loot. I was playing against the awesome Symphonicpoet. Battle raged through the swamp with swarms of piranhas feasting on the corpses that fell into the turgid waters (and nipping at the heels of the not yet dead as well). I suffered losses and only managed to get one boat off the board. The Amazon's claiming victory once the tally of points was done. Excellent fun.

Then a quick walk back down the lane to the bus stop, where I go to enjoy a good natter with the talented Will Beck as we headed back into Newark together.
A great event made all the better for the amazing friends there and love that goes into the hobby, my thanks to Garth (weazil here) for organising and Diane and family as ever for hosting.
