Sticky putty

ManicMan

Lord
well.. sometime I'm feeling like I'm forever having to deal with when doing putty work is it being too damn sticky. It's not too bad at a certain size, but even with water, I get to smaller stuff and it just keeps sticking so small details are just impossible.

I know I'm screwing up something, but just wondering about any tips.. I know you can freeze/cool things like green stuff to make it harder, and of course mix putties together for various properties but doesn't seam to really do too much at times.. sometimes I wonder about chalk dust, in the same as as using flour on pastry when making stuff (I did cooking for GCSE ^_^ I felt the metal work they taught up to that point was rubbish and for some reason, the classes I were in always got the short end of the stick.. for example, the other art classes got to make masks using paper mache and plaster to get a 3D shape and all.. we were only allowed cardboard.. woodwork wasn't much better and didn't get to use things like the vacuum forming machine which other classes did.. I know I wasn't in the top classes but I weren't in the bottom one in any really so.. why I ended up with the short stick all the tie I don't know)

anyway.. it is annoying to try to do small details with small amounts of putty when it won't stop sticking to your fingers for it to set where you want it. even sticks to some of the tools I'm using ugh..

Moisten your tool regularly, with green stuff I leave it for 5 to 10 mins after mixing so it's not as squishy and sticky to work with, licking my fingers before touching it stops it from sticking to me as much. I've not mixed it with milliput yet so can't comment on that.

Not heard of the Nivea trick, I might try that, Vaseline is ok, actual lube gets everywhere.
I can remember who did it, but watched a video where someone compared water, Nivea and vaseline. Vaseline worked well for the shaping but needed to be washed off before painting. Nivea worked just as well for stopping the sticky, but didn't seem to affect the painting. Will see if I can find it
