Stewards Required

Hi all

As the Oldhammer event crests the horizons of our calendars, we now move into the next stage of the event organisation.

As it stands, there are two games that will require stewarding - well, GMing, actually. These are Forenrond's Last Stand and Bloodbath at Orc's Drift. Now these games already have dedicated oldhammerers willing to sacrifice their entire weekend in order to babysit these, unless some willing (but responsible) stewards would like to step in and help.

Also, this is different from you just informally offering to GM a game on the spot or assist two players with a rules 'interpretation' - this is for people who will be able to set aside time over the weekend in order to look after a few hours of either of these great games.

Between now and then, it is entirely possible other games might 'pop up' - enabled by GM's such as you stepping forward.

Let's be clear about this: as the GM and steward, you will quite likely become accountable for someone else's figures. If that's something you're not sure you can cope with, then don't put yourself forward. Of course, the owners will be in the region to assist, no doubt, staring irritatingly over your shoulder to ensure that you're 'doing it right', but ultimately, its down to you.

If you still want to do this, please PM me with your interest, and I'll duly contact you.

Thanks ever so much!

More of a collector and painter ... I just don't know the rules well enough to GM a game myself.
But I am happy to help in any way I can ... running backwards and forwards with cups of tea for the stewards ... mopping brows ... etc.

Same here. Last time I GM'd a Warhammer game was 25+ years ago so I'm very rusty, and I won't be up to speed by end of August. Happy to help out with anything else I can though.

Hi chaps

Thanks for the replies - GMing isn't so much 'knowing the rules' as managing events that players don't know about. For example, there are spells that have random durations - if a GM is present, that means that the casting player need not know the duration either. I know that Orc's Drift specifically has GM managed knowledge which should only be shared with one of the players or only after certain events have happened. The GM/steward can also just serve as a neutral party when adjudicating anything contentious - player A says reroll the dice, because its cocked, but player B doesn't want to because its clear what the number is and its a good number for player B - this sort of thing.

Chances are, if there are rules disputes, the players will present the arguments (supported with whatever reference to books they may have) which the GM then decides on. Its also just an extra third party that can help the players remember that these are not their figures and that they should be looked after.

Finally, its worth nothing that most of us won't be very familiar with the rules and will most likely be trying to apply later edition rules to the games being played - that's actually fine - as long as the players are happy. This shouldn't be so much about rules as about having fun. If the scenario suggests something completely different to the rules should happen, players should be comfortable to go with that - a GM would help in this regard.

I hope that helps - if that sounds like you, then that would be great!

Thanks
