Statlines and other custom markup in posts

You can add BBCode to your posts to format them, BBCode works in much the same way as HTML and Markdown markup tags in text. The tags surround the text to format. BBCode consists of tags made from brackets [ and ]. You can read a good guide over at www.bbcode.org

In addition to the common BBCode tags we have a couple of additional ones that should make writing about Oldhammer and associated game systems easier.

Statlines

You may wish to include the statistics for your heroes an villains and this can be done using the statline tag

Code:
[statline="{NAME}"]{M},{WS},{BS},{S},{T},{W},{I},{A},{Ld},{Int},{Cl},{WP},{Points Value}[/statline]

For example:
Code:
[statline="Human"]4,3,3,3,3,1,3,1,7,7,7,7,5[/statline]

Will create:
 MWSBSSTWIALdIntClWPPV
Human4333313177775

Which is suitable for Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader. Further the statline supports several standard profiles from several games. To use these particular formats you must suffice the character's name with a pipe character (|) and an identifier for the system as illustrated below:

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 1st edition
Code:
[statline="Mutant Cats|wfrp"]5,33,0,2,1,4,60,2,-,20,10,24,20,-[/statline]
 MWSBSSTWIADexLdIntClWPFel

Warhammer Fantasy Battle 1st edition
Code:
[statline="Sea Elf Warrior|wfb1"]4,4,4,3,B,1,6,1[/statline]

Age of Sigmar (not that we'd be expecting much of that here!)
Code:
[statline="Beast of Nurgle|aos"]6",4+,-,4,5,5,D6,7,6+[/statline]
 MWSBSSTWALdSVPV
Beast of Nurgle6"4+-455D676+-

Warhammer 40,000 2nd edition
Code:
[statline="Gretchin|40k2"]4,2,2,2,2,1,2,1,5,-,3[/statline]
 MWSBSSTWIALdSVPV
Gretchin 422221215-3

Missing entries will be filled out with a hyphen (-)

You can always roll your own as KingOfTheLeadPile did in this post using tables:

GM Notes

If writing s scenario you might want to obscure sections of the output as text for the Games Masters' Eyes Only. You can do this with the spoiler and ispoiler tags

For example:
Code:
[SPOILER=GM's Eyes Only]Players shouldn't be reading this bit![/SPOILER]

Will create:
Players shouldn't be reading this bit!

You can click on the blacked out area to reveal the hidden text. There is also an inline spoiler

For example:
Code:
The wicked witch of the East has but one weakness:[ISPOILER] water[/ISPOILER]

Will create:
The wicked witch of the East has but one weakness: water

Clicking on the blurred text reveals the contents.

Panel

The Panel tag is useful when writing scenarios to box out sections that maybe contain descriptive prose.

For example:
Code:
[PANEL]Martha Dane paused, looking up at the purple-tinged copper sky. The wind had shifted since noon, while she had been inside, and the dust storm that was sweeping the high deserts to the east was now blowing out over Syrtis. The sun, magnified by the haze, was a gorgeous magenta ball, as large as the sun of Terra, at which she could look directly. Tonight, some of that dust would come sifting down from the upper atmosphere to add another film to what had been burying the city for the last fifty thousand years.[/PANEL]

Will create:
Martha Dane paused, looking up at the purple-tinged copper sky. The wind had shifted since noon, while she had been inside, and the dust storm that was sweeping the high deserts to the east was now blowing out over Syrtis. The sun, magnified by the haze, was a gorgeous magenta ball, as large as the sun of Terra, at which she could look directly. Tonight, some of that dust would come sifting down from the upper atmosphere to add another film to what had been burying the city for the last fifty thousand years.

You can combine the panel tag with the header tag for a neat look thus:

Code:
[PANEL][header]OMNILINGUAL by H. Beam Piper[/header]
Tonight, some of that dust would come sifting down from the upper atmosphere to add another film to what had been burying the city for the last fifty thousand years.[/PANEL]

Will create:

OMNILINGUAL by H. Beam Piper

If you add the sketch option to the panel tag like this: [PANEL=sketch], you'll create a slightly differently styled panel thus:

Martha Dane paused, looking up at the purple-tinged copper sky. The wind had shifted since noon, while she had been inside, and the dust storm that was sweeping the high deserts to the east was now blowing out over Syrtis. The sun, magnified by the haze, was a gorgeous magenta ball, as large as the sun of Terra, at which she could look directly. Tonight, some of that dust would come sifting down from the upper atmosphere to add another film to what had been burying the city for the last fifty thousand years.

We also have a darker scheme - [PANEL=dark] which creates:
Martha Dane paused, looking up at the purple-tinged copper sky. The wind had shifted since noon, while she had been inside, and the dust storm that was sweeping the high deserts to the east was now blowing out over Syrtis. The sun, magnified by the haze, was a gorgeous magenta ball, as large as the sun of Terra, at which she could look directly. Tonight, some of that dust would come sifting down from the upper atmosphere to add another film to what had been burying the city for the last fifty thousand years.

And a more retro science fiction scheme in homage to a familiar design - [PANEL=rt] which creates:
Martha Dane paused, looking up at the purple-tinged copper sky. The wind had shifted since noon, while she had been inside, and the dust storm that was sweeping the high deserts to the east was now blowing out over Syrtis. The sun, magnified by the haze, was a gorgeous magenta ball, as large as the sun of Terra, at which she could look directly. Tonight, some of that dust would come sifting down from the upper atmosphere to add another film to what had been burying the city for the last fifty thousand years.

Have fun creating scenarios for the community to enjoy!
