Squat Army Lists / Inquisitor #15

Lord
This topic could span multiple sub-fora. So I've put it here in General.

I'm inclined to get more squats painted for use in an upcoming game of 2d Ed. 40k.

One option of course is to use the Black Codex which came with the box set for army construction. But this is only a couple pages and not very detailed, so I'd like to see other options.

I know there was an apparently more detailed (or lengthier, at least) squat army list in Inquisitor #15. And I'm currently lurking on eBay to try to get a copy. (Of course, if anyone here has one they wouldn't mind parting with, I'm happy to discuss price with you).

Is anyone familiar with the Inquisitor #15 army list? If so, can you give me a sense of what the options in it are? Any '40K slayer' type option?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Just wondering if you're aware of the squat army list in WD 110?

I am indeed, thanks for checking. That's the list that appears in the Compendium. RT-era (which is great), but I am looking for something 2d Ed-era for an agreed upon 2d Ed game upcoming.

I am well on the way to answering my own questions. I've got a copy of Inquisitor #15 on its way to my house!

A blogger has a review of the entire issue here: http://wargamedork.blogspot.com/2014/03/operation-game-collection-warhammer-40k_17.html, which touches on a few points of the list (well, list"s" - there's a Brotherhood list and an Engineer's guild list). And I found a few pictures of some pages as well.

There are indeed squat slayers ("berserkers"). They are armed with two "squat power axes" (a better power axe, for which the list provides stats). They carry no ranged weapons, and there is no option to give them one. It's an odd armament. It makes a bit of sense because the list provides for a special rule that squats may "throw" an axe as a shooting attack, but only at a model they are in base-to-base contact with (this permanently uses up the thrown axe). Squats also get a rule that allows them to parry with an axe. Berserkers get an unmodified 5+ save. They have the same base stats as a regular squat and are subject to frenzy. They cost about 60% more in points than a regular squat. It's an odd unit - with no ability to do damage without being in base to base contact, and a movement of 3, a transport is essentially mandatory.

There are also squat longbeards. These are twice the cost of a regular squat, but come in power armor. Their WS, I, and LD are all slightly better than a normal squat. A unit can have up to two special weapons, but no heavy ones. Power armored squats seemed odd to me, but I suppose there are miniatures for the chaos squats in power armor . . .

On the whole, the list is underdeveloped in comparison to the 2nd edition codices, but hey, it's more expansive than the black codex. If there's interest, I'll share some more observations in this thread once I've received and read over the issue.
