Space Marine Heresy

Been inspired by some Instagram posts to use the new mk.6 plastics on the old Jes Goodwin designed metal mk.7 bodies. I think the slightly finer sculpting and proportions of the new plastics work well with these smaller marines. I gave him a bigger base and height to show him off too. What do you all think?

Few more marines have joined the heresy… joined by a full metal sergeant barking orders!

Couple more marines complete the squad!
Chap on the left has another salvaged RTB01 bolter which look so much better with the adjusted ammo clip placement don’t you think?

^Better is a dangerous (and possibly heretical) word here. More realistic? Maybe. But these are space toys shooting space nightmares with space fantasies. Realism isn't necessarily required. The original has a certain cool cachet it simply by being the original. I'm much more likely to try backdate a newer miniature at this point than vice versa.

It's a big world with lots of room for each of us to do different things, but I think I'd go with "different" rather than "better." If you like it, do it. Your toys, your rules. :) Glad you like it, but . . . no. Not better. Just . . . you can't beat the best. ;)

Don’t get me wrong, have lots of love for the old box set! Am just impressed that a minor adjustment (and a drilled barrel!) and they still hold up. :)

Oh, barrel drilling instructions should come with your introductory kit. Makes a big difference. :) And yes, they hold up very well to minor modifications of all sorts. (My favorites were adding scopes and under barrel grenade launchers.)

I still think the RTB01 sprues are some of the best plastics they have ever done, and the OG Rhino/Predator. Loved the Land Raider but never built one so can't comment on that.

I still remember trying to copy the Dark Angel conversions and deodorant grav tank back in the day, good times. Never did attempt the Marine/Dalek conversion though. :(

I remember after all those "early" plastics being so disappointed with the 2nd ed 40k and 4th ed WFB plastics and their monopose nature. Just couldn't understand it after all the fun of the multipart kits.

It's on my todo list!

for some reason, I've always seen the original RT plastic space marines as having a nice range of poses and stuff.. yet online people are saying how bad and mono-pose they were.. hell they weren't. 2 different poses of legs, separate torso, a range of arms and separate head gave SOO many pose options.

Most of my marines are either RT plastics or the metal bodies so never really had much experience with the 2nd ed plastic marines.

It was pretty clear even then that those boxed sets were designed as younger beginners with the simpler plug and play designs they must have learned from the MB Games partnership?
The aforementioned Mk.7 multi-part plastics were more of a sign of things to come!

Have got an original Land Raider in the repair pile, the misaligned tracks were a bugger to resolve…

That goofy conversion certainly sticks in my mind, but was not aware of the Darlek plastics at the time!
