Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative miniatur

Sigi

Serf
As i promised in my first thread i will show you some pictures of my slow going army building process ...

I don't have that much time at the moment and most of the pictures were done some time ago. I'm currently working on my house that's number 1 priority for me
I also have som other time wasting hobbies like working on cars and stuff like that ...

Whatever ... some information first

My brother and I (we are twins  ) started warhammer when we were 16, almost 14 years ago ...
It was a long going prozess ... i started with chaos and he with O&G. I was annoyed after some time and sold all my chaos stuff (what the f.... ). 2 years later i saw my brothers army growing and growing in a slowly process ... it made fun watching the army become bigger and bigger and i soon realised - i want that do again too :!:
So i startet again on a new chaos army and collecting the newest models. Time passen and i got some nice unit's but somehow years ago i recognised, taht's not what i wanted. I wanted the oldhammer staff. The classic looking comic style fantasy armies of the older days ... the new WoC look like a piece of s.... for me honestly. It's new it's good sculpted but it's not the style i want in an WH army ...

So i choose to collect older miniatures.

My brother also likes that look a lot more and has a lot of this stuff in his big grown O&G army.

So ... this is my enemy ...

DSCF3634.jpg

Now that's what i call a challenge ...

On the following thread you will see my growing army to compete this hughe amount of green bastards ... it's growing slowly but with tasteful miniatures ...

Honestly i have to say, not all of my miniatures are Zitadel oldhammer stuff. It's a mixture of newer barbarians, knights, warriors with the older ones. I also reuinte the beasts and demons with the warriors, i never liked that GW spilt these armies years ago ...
The slow growing beastmen army will be full of alternative miniatures of all different types of manufacturers ;)

So all i have to say at least ... enjoy the following pages and fell free to ask anything you might be interessted

and thanks for being a member of the oldhammer board ;)

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

Holy crapola! That's a lot of orcs! =) To level the playing field a bit, you can demand to only play with painted minis.

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

so let's start at the beginning of my army. One of the first things that were bought are the great demons. Most of them were presents from my brother ...

DSCF2140.jpg

I also got a classic Arbaal as you can see. I love that miniature, one of my favorite ones !
Newer one's of Khorne, Tzeentch and Nurgle, but i like their style, they are fine.

For some reason i bought the new chaos spawns when they were cheap ... don't know what to do with them, we will see how they look like when they are painted.

DSCF2141.jpg

You also can see my old Scylla and the older dragon ogre. The giant is impressive, i love it. It's from reaper and looks exactely like a giant should be. He will match my army when it's done.

I first started to collect the oldhammer miniatiures for special characters. They looked so nice and i didn't want them as ordinary warriors...

DSCF2142.jpg

I didn't know these days that time would change my mind

Old minotaurs, hellcanon (i wish i wouldn't had bougt this thing) and an old stone thrower

DSCF2143.jpg

newer charriots, ogres minotaurs and dragon ogres ...

DSCF2144.jpg

i was always int 5th edition warriors, don't know why ...

DSCF2145.jpg

DSCF2146.jpg

knight's - a mixture of 5th edition and 6th edition. the 5th edition ones were put on 4th edition (??) bretonian knight horses ...

DSCF2147.jpg

and my small first demon units ...

DSCF2149.jpg

hope you like it so far - not much oldhammer stuff at the moment ... it will come in the following pictures ;)

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

@ preedh

some of them are already painted

I have to tell you mor about our armies i guess. we are not playing WHFB so we don't build our armies for that one. We are planning on playing Armies of Arcania rules. They are faster and easier to play and not as magic lasting as the whfb rules. We want big armies, big unit's and a fast gameplay ;)

We don't use single bases, all miniatures of a unit are glues on the unit base. We don't put the looses from the table we mark them with dices. It's easier to play and it is hell of a work to but such big units back togehter again. Transporting them also isn't that nice ...

beastmen for the hordes ...

and then it began ... old school love was set into my heart ...
at this moment i realised i wanted the old stuff and started searching for it ;)

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

I soon realised, it's the classic look i'm into. So all my miniatures were put into a big box and i knew i wnated to mix them up.

Old ones together with them of the 5th edition to create a bid army of chaos ... and of course all good looking alternative miniatures too

so i started buying the old stuff ...

warriors first of all

and some zoat's

I started to disassembly my units

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

I started with the basic units for my army - the marauders.

when you are planning a massive army you should have massive marauders - just for the fluff.
They are the core of an army (as i consider an army should be) and so sometimes i will buy much more of them. A few houndreds i guess ...

I decided to go with the 5th edition marauders, they are fine for me and i like them. Making an massive army of oldhammer marauders would be very very expensive. This works fine for me and i think they will match the look of the army in the end.
Maybe not the best start for an oldhammer lover ...

DSCF2252.jpg

DSCF2261.jpg

I mixed the colours of the leather randomly for a different appearence of the miniatures.

DSCF2284.jpg

DSCF2291.jpg

As you can see, they are not pro-painted. It would be a hughe amount of work painting such big armies detailed - and they are only for gaming no show armies. So we decided to paint them easily and use fad for the finishing. It worked out well and we like it alot.

Before the FAP

and after ...

I also did the first knight unit this way ...

Then i decided to make the demon units cause they are easier and faster finished ...

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

At this point i realised that warriors are fine, but honestly they will be all the same - somehow ...

I decided to put the focus more on the other unit's. I wanted more beasts ... beasts - beasts - beasts

This will not only be GW miniatures or Zitadel, i will mix up all kind of stuff from different manufacturers. And i will not make a goatmen herd, i will make a strange mixture from all kind of animals ...

So collecting goes on :)

But the main reason i'm here is the oldschool stuff. The most awesome miniatures on this army will be the mixed up oldhammer ones and i guess that's what you wanna see

So who can tell me what this is ?

It's an indication that you'll have a sweeter battering ram than these kids:

Sweet bloody shitfuck, that's a LOT of nice stuff you have there. The amount of modern knobrot is forgivable considering the sheer amount of minis in the army! =)

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

I hope so .... it would be quiet expensive to make 20k points with oldhammer. I think i did the mix quiet right and the fifth edition miniatures will fit the older ones pretty good.

I don't know if i keep them all or change some newer ones with oldhammer stuff by the time (dragon ogres, ogres etc etc etc ...). But for now it works fine for me :?

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

Didn't have the time to finish that yet ... Of course there is currently something more if you are interested ;)

I worked on Warriors and as you might guess i didn't only use that oldhammer stuff. I'm also into that 5th edition warrior miniatures, for some reason i really love them. To stay with the oldhammer style i decided to have a mixture of 50% oldhammer warriors and 50% 5th edition miniatures. It came out quiet well i think. Didn't have the time to paint them until yet cause the work on my new house keeps me really busy ...

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

If you are into oldhammer stuff and like dragons you just must have a Egrimm van Horstmann on your Chaos army. I had one - but it wasn't enough for me. I got a really cheap offer for a second one and decided to buy it.

Of course you can't have two totally equal Egrimm Miniatures in an army. I didn't like that idea. So don't kill me now ... i decided to cut it into peaces and make a conversion on it

It's really much WIP but i guess you can see what it will look like in the end - hope you like it :?

That's it for now .... next steps will be to paint the warrior units. But this will take some time cause i wanna move into my new house within the next two months and have a lot of stuff to to there ...

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

Firstly - wow! I wonder how many kilograms that lot is!

I'm really interested in your bases - it looks like you've got a single integrated base for the entire unit - is that the case? What's your thinking behind this?

Re: Sigi's hughe chaos army ... oldhammer + alternative mini

@ Thantsants

That's only a part of all the lead we have (not only lead honesty). My brother and I have a lot of miniatures together. I also have the beastmen I'm collecting at the moment. This army will be put together in the next two years I guess. There are a lot of miniatures I have to buy first befor completing it. Then of course the thousands of O&G of my brother, most of them in Kev Adams inspired design. We also have two hughe Mantic Games armys of undead and highelves. Currently we are starting our (maybe) last army, the dwarfs. They should also have the old school look and my brother started to buy the first houndred Harlequin style dwarfs of Black Tree Design. We will mix them up together with other manufacturers ...
But these all don't have the oldhammer look and will not fit in here, that's why i didn't show them.
I honestly have to say we have more miniatures at home than most tabletop shop around here have ...

@Weazil

The unit bases are custom made. We made them cause it's annoying to put houndreds no thousands of miniatures on the table with single bases ... We like fatser gameplay so we decided to make these bases and mark the losses with dices behind the units. That's also the reason why we switched from WHFB to the Armies of Arcania rulebook, cause it's easier and faster to play. We didn't like that psychotic special rules for each unit that WHFB has, and we are also notinto that surrounding thing during the mealage phase. We like big units, put them on the table and fight some nice battles without special things or a heavy bunch of magic (these things should only be a small part during such battles). So we feel much more comfotable with this way. And it looks so much better of course ;)
