RT Space Wolf Camo

Hi folks,

I originally had the thought of making a RT Dark Angels army in the classic black but at the minute I keep on seeing the attached illustration of Space Wolves in desert camo in the compendium book. Space Wolves were my first army for Games Workshop and I've still got a soft spot. The question is if I did go for this how to do the camo? In my minds eye I can see the main colour as a sort of sandy yellow and then maybe brown stripes but if anyones got any suggestions (or better yet actual colour pictures of examples) that'd be great.

Thanks

Tom

Obviously this is a grey scale image and we can all imagine what the colors might be...and I like the two you are suggesting...I would add a third though. Most modern camo patterns have three colors that are interspersed...a base color and two colors in small segments.

At least thats my impression....though the pattern is different I found this tutorial by Stone Cold Lead to be VERY helpful when I was doing camo on my Imperial guard figures...perhaps you can use it as an inspiration for colors if not the pattern itself

I love non-traditional armor patterns on space marines so please be sure to keep us posted on your progress.

Cheers,

I haven't painted any yet, but I am planning at least a squad of spacewolves in a camo scheme, and colourwise I was thinking more of an orangy brown with black stripes, kinda like the medusa camo scheme from the compendium, although with more of tiger stripe, like in the pic you posted

Ah yes, it was the Sons of Medusa scheme I was thinking of but just couldn't place it. I'd love to see some photos of yours if you ever get round to painting them.

For what it's worth, that original camo style looks a lot like Tiger Stripe, which was used by the US in the early days of the Vietnam War. It looked like this:

Nowadays, there's a Russian designed pattern that's very similar and includes some different color variations. I found a cool comparison image over on Deviant Art with some different variations: http://tounushi.deviantart.com/art/Russian-Tiger-Stripe-389635604. Hope that helps a bit for inspiration!
