Rogue Trader to be reissued

Yeah, I saw that too :)

I think (seeing as it's just a scan of the original) I'll just stick with what I've got. Not much point in getting it for those of us that already have their original copy from back in the day. Unless it has fallen apart  Which is a common problem with the old hardbacks from GW.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but this "may" have the unintended consequence of taking some modern 40K fans away from GW? We might see, depending on how well it sells of course, an influx of new Oldhammerer's? I don't really see any positive outcomes for GW in reprinting this, apart from monetary, to tell you the truth. It's just going to advertise a game they no longer support :?

Any rumours on how much they'll be charging for it?

The StD & L&D reprint? Now that would be a great idea

Yeah. think i'll stick with my fallen apart edition.

Looks like it's being given an 'event only' release, which really positions this outing as a fanboy collectors edition for curiosity, rather than a game re-release, bit like the 1st Edition version for the 25th anniversary. Still IMHO a scan of the printed rulebook just wont be good enough quality to spend any money on.

The scans of old rules from RT as well as RoC and TLatD in the new Index series of 40k books are absolutely top notch so I've got high hopes for this rerelease of RT. I've already got two copies of RT, one is in great condition and the other is in bits, but I'm keen to have a well bound version that I can open without worrying it'll lose pages. I dread to think what the price will be for the rerelease but as I'm at WHW in a couple of weeks I'll check it out and make my decision on the day.

Cost wise Id be amazed if it was less than £50. Actually I can see it hitting £60.. which would be too much for me.

I think you might find that there's a few "fanboys" as you put it, who visit warhammer world, who are Oldhammerer's too. So, I'm not sure that that excludes them from being interested in buying this old tome. How many modern 40K gamers are even going to know what Rogue Trader was/is?. Then even if they are, are they going to be willing to shell out a lot of money for it, just to look at all the pretty pictures?

I think this re-print has a lot more appeal for the Grognards......like us, rather than the "fanboys".

They reprinted 1st Ed fantasy several years back and it had no apparent effect on anything other than to sell a few "collector's items." I suspect that's mostly what this is... Which is not to knock it, I'll buy it if given the opportunity!

I didn't realise that they'd reprinted WHFB 1st edition. Was it done as a book? I.e. all three volumes as one book? Or a re-release of the original box? I own 1st edition and FoF but I'm curious about what they did with the re-release. I wouldn't rebuy WHFB 1st edition because it's sat on my shelf for decades gathering dust.

In terms of effect on gamers RT is no doubt being released as part of GW's sweating their nostalgia assets for easy money which I'm already keenly buying into. RT is certainly an easier sell than WHFB 1st because it's a much more professional looking product and a significantly better system. Will newer/younger gamers buy RT to play? Possibly but I'd be surprised if it was in great numbers and if the price is near my mooted £50-£60 I can't see many kids buying into, what will be to them, a dead system.

A few quick Google searches didn't turn up anything so I'd have to check old white dwarfs. But if memory serves, it was a special edition box. Not sure if forces of fantasy was included or not.

I've had a look myself and I can't find anything either. Do keep digging though!

It came with the 25th Anniversary Edition Box set of 7th Ed WFB:

Basically it was a little single book pamphlet, No FoF from memory.

saw the photos on the internet. looks alright. decent price, nice edition. good if you haven't got it already. it made me think how alien RT must look to newbies. so many tables to roll on!

Yeah sure, so selling it as an event souvenir is what marks it out as it being flogged as a fanboy curiosity, An actual re-release, you know so anyone could buy it either online or in a shops, different story.

That hasn't been the general opinion viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9524&p=81278&hilit=apocrypha#p81278 but maybe they fixed the problems?
