Realm of chaos-chaos

Hi, i`m currently pumping up the size of my Daemonic legion forces for all 4 powers and am taking an "everything goes" approach, i`m going to include types that were in later editions and then disappeared eg plague riders (plaguebearers on beasts of Nurgle) and anything else i find appropriate like the long forgotten Sentinals of chaos from 2nd ed-this should cause no problem for home games as i envision playing my forces against each other with opponents picking which power they want-so what do i want from you?

Well there are many discrepencies between the 2 ROC volumes eg availability of Daemon princes, legionaires etc and limitations on unit size/number which could cause problems with new opponents-how do you guys deal with this?

Do you mean: "how do we deal with discrepencies between the 2 ROC volumes", or, do you mean: "how do we deal with potentially problems with opponents"

If it's the former I would suggest you pick whatever bits you like and if your opponents dont want to play ball then go find some new opponents. If it's the latter then...well I think you can see where this is leading... ;)

(someone with a more sensible answer will see you shortly).

lol.. thats what i thought but i just wondered if there had been any general consensus eg "lost and the damned takes precidence because it is newer" for me it makes sence to use which ever gives the most variety.

You'll probably find people prefer one thing over another for various reasons. I guess it comes down who is GM'ing the game, or steering a particular narrative.

Speaking as someone who is coming back to gaming after a long break (since the 80s) I'm actually finding it advantageous not to know all the ins and outs of the rules. It means that any decisions I make in-game are largely based on what feels right at the time. It helps that I have the mighty Warlord Paul to steer the narrative, and the likes of Orlygg James to game with. The rules are a means to an end, not an end in themselves.

I'm sure it also helps that they're just sucking up in hopes of access to your stuff ;)

Personally, I prefer to settle all disputes with a knife fight to first blood.

My sarcasm is out of control today. Maybe I need more coffee...

I would say.....dont worry about it. Chaos stuff does not work out well points wise. CHoas Knight, for example, are very expensive for what they do. A Blood thirster is far more effective than a unit of knights, and about the same price. SO dont use points to balance your armies. I would instead go on actual amount of troops and thier effectiveness. SOunds like you want to make 4 armies that play well agaisnt each other. This will take some trial and error. But for example, taking units of the mounted plage riders, well just take the same amount of demon cav for the other armies! If one unit seems to be doing better in the games, nerf it or buff the others with standards etc.

Personally, I would be tempted to just field roughly similar sized armies and leave it at that. Or maybe work out a points system of your own (eg, a grater demon is 5 points, a unit of knights is 3, a general is 3, a unit of 30 marauders is 2, a unit of 10 chaos dwarves is 1 etc) then let your buddies pick from YOUR list.
