Raven Armoury

My understanding is there was some agreement over an exchange of advertising in White Dwarf for the early slayer swords, but that aside I always wished I could afford to get something from them (one day maybe!). Lovely workmanship and I rather like the fact they are still a small family armoury.

Anyhow given there seems to be a fondness for pointed objects among a few of us here and I noticed it on YouTube and it's a bit kinda oldhammer-ish here is a Skallagrim video of him visiting Raven and chatting about some of their work from a day or two ago.

I wasn't aware of Raven still going. Bit of a surprise that ^_^
Problem I have with some of that stuff is more it's.. designed for display. Not that I USE any stuff I got (longish story) but I prefer practical design over display. Too many people try to make a broadsword with a sharp edge when it shouldn't have etc.. but these aren't too bad.

Indeed, I wouldn't imagine using a three grand sword as a "backyard cutter" (as the phrase seems to go). All functional enough should you want to risk putting a ding in the edge however! I'm a firm believer in having an edge on all my swords (although my 1845 pattern, from 1st West York R.V was never service sharpened so that's pointy, but no sharp cutting edge) they don't get used for chopping up water bottles or anything in the garden, but a blunt sword even if it serves mainly as a display piece seems somehow wrong (I like swords because their form is a fundamental requirement of their function, so I feel generally they should be sharp).

I think if you want to do some idle chopping in the garden you're best of getting something like the United Cutlery Honshu Broadsword which is a bit more affordable at about £250 (or something similar from Windlass if you want something with a more historic style grip) and you can accept getting some nicks and resharpen as needed.

Anyhow if I had the money (and even less willpower than it's now well established low levels) I expect Raven would be seven grand better off and I'd have a Leaf-blade Broadsword and a Five skull Scimitar on the wall :) Although I might need to buy some more walls as well come to think of it! Still since we're in fantasy land I don't see that as a problem for this day dream! :)

double handed medieval (style) half broad. A practical sword that can be out in all weathers. Need to probably replace the leather on the handle as that has been a problem for years, and still need to deal with some surface damage but mostly fine (just for a note, for some various reasons which non-south-easters wouldn't fully understand, I do alot of going out dressed as a Saxon this time of year.. and some points during the year)
