Question C18 Zombies

Sleepysod

Baron
Hi All,

Have recently purchased my Kev Adam's zombie for this year's Oldhammer legacy project - I chose 'Kand Meet' (see bottom right C18 Zombies - Spring 1986 Journal on the SOL site).

The miniature appears to have a flat shield boss on his left wrist - out of interest does anyone whether this is actually the case? (were zombies able to use shields in WFB 2e or 3e? were they sold with shields) Also am considering giving him a Nurgle themed shield - anyone got any suggestions for something that is currently in production?

Well, it's definitely a shield boss:

However, there are no options to give shields to zombies in either 1E or 2E, so I'd just put it down to Kev being Kev.

As far as available shields go, with the undead I like to just use the shields they would have had in life, but battered and damaged as if they were defending themselves with it when they died.

One option specifically for Nurgle shields is just to make your own with greenstuff, they're really simple to do and great fun:

These are just a layer of GS inserted into a the centre of a shield, then poked with pins etc to push the putty around into a rough surface. The Nurgle symbols are just three GS balls flattened onto the surface to make circles (the skulls similar with a bit more shaping), and the tentacles are just bits rolled to a taper and pushed into holes. The whole lot took about ten minutes, tops.

Ravening Hordes for 2nd edition did allow 0–50 armoured zombies equipped with hand weapons, shields and metal breastplates in undead armies on top of the 40-150 regular zombies.

As you can see, the blisters included bog standard round shields.

Your shields look great - will definitely have to consider that as a way forward - and that unopened pack of zombies is also very impressive! (how can you resist!)

Good to know they could use of shields in 2e. I guess that they would be strapped to their arms rather than actively defending. Thinking about it most of the citadel zombies were armed (including the Necromunda plague ones)... which is not particularly in keeping with George A Romero (aside from 'Bub' obviously), but there we go.

I’ll crack the zombie blisters open when I eventually get around to working on my Nurgle Lost & the Damned peasants crusade rabble.

FWIW, I’m with dieselmonkey on shields preferring the battered, rotten shields that they used when alive rather than something Nurgle or undead themed.
