Parts of my RT / 2nd ed project!

Hi guys,

So Cheetor asked for photos of my RT models. I am not a great photographer, and I don't have photos of everything, but here's what I have at the moment. I'll update this thread periodically as I repack my miniatures cases and use the opportunity to take photos.

First up, Orks. I started collecting RT Orks because ... I am actually not sure why I did it. But I quite like them and I have accumulated a little force. I plan to build little RT-sized forces for lots of different factions: a couple of squads, a couple of vehicles or big machines, and lots of little individual weird guys.

The forces of Chaos:

I started playing Chaos in 2nd ed, whenever the big yellow book came out, but I had actually been collecting Chaos models in a half-hearted way since I was much younger; I used to pick up odd packs of models in shops when I traveled, and I seemed to wind up getting Nurgle stuff, just because I liked the look of the minis. Some of those figures are in this force; the others are ebay and LAF acquisitions. This section is very incomplete.

Badly-painted marines from my youth; these guys need a touch-up.

Slightly less badly-painted models from recent years.

This shot shows one of the guys from the back row a little more clearly.

Plaguebearers with some fantasy Nurgle champions. I call this my "green period."

Those more recent nurgle marines are looking good. I particularly like the palate on tentacle arm and the nurgling. The mottled green tones and sickly purple are sweet.

Thanks! I think I'm much happier with the direction those guys are going in. That purple is an old Citadel paint in the hexagonal pot with the white top. Worm Purple, something like that? I found it in an old painting box of mine when I went back to visit my parents last year, and it was still fresh! I must have had it 15+ years.

Looks like Liche Purple to me ;) I was using the same hexagonal purple pot type myself recently and have it here now on my paint desk..

great nurgle marines and the reds on the orks look particularly orky. Overall great work and I look forward to seeing more,

MD

Nice work. I especially like the ork shock attack gun and how you've made it look like the piece of oily kit bashed orky gubbins it should be. The only painted ones I remember are from the 90's and GW's terrible red period so this one very refreshing to see.

I suppose if you think of the bright, bold paint jobs on 19th century steam engines and so on a bright colour isn't too inappropriate for these clanking machines, but I agree that I prefer them looking a bit worn and crappy. I have tried to mix the two a bit in the army scheme -- mostly the boyz are dirty and neutral in terms of their clothes, but with some bright red accent on them somewhere to show their affiliation, while the nobz display their higher status by having more scarlet on them.

(I should say that the SAG actually belongs to my mate Alex, but I painted it for him just as I ... said I would paint his Pulsa Rokkit ... but have not actually done so yet. Hrm. I may be a bad friend.)

Yes he did. He was right. These are great.

I like the orks and the "Slightly less badly-painted models from recent years" the best, they are cool.

I dont remember seeing these up on LAF at any stage, although I may just have missed them.

Thats a great name

You have quite a few miniatures there that I covet. When I see them painted I dont mind as much though :)

Thanks for sharing. Make sure to update this thread (or start new ones or whatever).

A quick update: a leader for one of my Plague Marine squads. I've got enough late 1st / 2nd ed plague marines for their own squad, and a bunch of the generation after that, so I'm thinking I may have three core squads, sorted by generation.

The light isn't very good, but I'm pleased by the rust.

I especially like the skin tones on the ork nobz & boyz. Their dark, but still a little bright...... if that make any sense at all?

Nice paintjob on the third chaos warrior too, I like the colour choices you made. I've got that mini -in the painting queue- I spent a while fixing his deformed hand, I don't know why they let that pass QA ;)

You've got a great eclectic collection of minis there, great stuff!

Parts of my RT / 2nd ed project! More Orks, 14/07!

Last night I finished painting the last infantry models for my Ork project. I still have a Dreadnought and a Pulsa Rokkit to do, plus some Gretchin, but the core of it is done. So here it is!

Hello Cleveland, the goffik rokker, poses for his closeup.

Those orks are great, tatty and dishevelled in a good way. Really cool.

I have been gathering up the RT power armoured orks for the last few months. I am still a couple short, but seeing yours has given me the urge to drop everything and paint them...

They are among my favourite RT figures -- brutal, clanky and ponderous. And dumb, which I think is an essential ingredient for Orks.
