Oldhammer enough?

Im new to this forum. I have been looking for guidelines about what is appropriate content for posting here but havent found any. So I though that I would ask.

For example, I recently played a series of four skirmish games set in the rather open ended Rogue Trader universe. I used miniatures from a variety of sources that I thought had a suitable vibe. Only a couple of the miniatures were of GW manufacture and even fewer were actual late eighties Citadel. The rule set that I used was 7TV from Crooked Dice as I was trying to recreate the sort of James Bond atmosphere found in the Eisenhorn books.

So, in summary, the games didnt use many old Citadel models and didnt use an old GW ruleset. The game was definitely thematically set in the RT universe, but thats as Oldhammer as it got really. Is that a suitable topic to put up a thread about?

It might sound like an anal-retentive question to some of you, but I could completely understand if the various collectors (of which there are many around here from what I can see) and gamers on here would rather that this forum kept its focus squarely aimed at old Citadel/Marauder figures and old GW rulesets. There are plenty of places online with a broader remit than this forum that my slightly skewed interpretation of Oldhammer fits in to just fine, so I dont *need* to post it here or anything. On the other hand, I do think that it would likely interest a proportion of the Oldhammer members. So I am unsure whether to start a thread about it here or not.

This is the link to the fourth game in the mini campaign. Its definitely RT in spirit, but is it Oldhammer enough for this place? I dont want to dilute the focus around here too much.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Juts my 2 cents on this but my understanding is that this place is about the story first.
most of us use minatures from other companies and for other games and mix everything to make our games enjoyable. If you have a good scenario (played in the RT universe is just icing on the cake...) then I would like to read it.

I second that. If it quacks like a duck and looks like a duck then it's a duck

I'd say post whatever you fancy, if people find it non-Oldhammer enough people will either just not reply/read.

There was a great discussion a while back on the differences between Oldhammer and Archeo-gaming and how the two are related but not the same. Maybe Zhu will gives us a philosophical discussion again on it, but the gist was that Oldhammer is about using (and modifying) the older rulesets to create a more story driven experience while archeo-gaming is about using only old models and rules as they were produced.

As this is the "Oldhammer" forum, then, I think you'll be safe with what you described ;)

Not sure it's strictly Oldhammer, but I see no reason not to discuss it, or any other game, here*

Sorry Mr Ardyer, no beard-stroking philosophising for me today. Game looks very nice Mr Cheetor!

* I am currently contracted to produce some illustrations for the forthcoming Otherworld Skirmish - a Fantasy variant of 7TV - so I might be a bit biased! :)

I think the important thing is that you played some games with your friends and had a good time.

As for whether the fun you had was ideologically pure or not remains to be determined. I shall put it before the committee that adjudicates such things, just as soon as we have finished determining how many angels may dance on the head of a pin.

Fantastic

Paul, go ahead and post (if you haven't already). If anything, this place needs a little fresh air and perspective on rule sets. Your posts might make someone sitting on a bunch of RT minis but not feeling like play RT to actually get around to play with his little guys using 7TV. It's all about cultivation, you know. =)

Furthermore, your stuff is always well painted, well photographed, well written and well worth a read. Go nuts!

In fairness, my aim was not to philosophise for its own sake, just to make sure that I not to inadvertently spoil anyones online toy soldier haven. To piss in their virtual chips so to speak ;)

I dislike progress as much as any late thirties fan of the 41st millenium, but I do believe in an evolve or die policy for my toy soldiers.

Aw shucks, youll make me blush (and you will over sell the end product too. Its not just about cultivation, its also about expectation management ;) )

Thanks for the feedback everybody.

Dear Sir,

On reviewing the minutes of the committee, I am glad to report that they have given your project their tentative blessing. However, I note from the tone of your reply that you do not appear to be treating the matter with the complete seriousness that it deserves.

After concluding the committees interim report on "The correct approach to the ingestion of boiled ovum - anterior portion or posterior portion?", your project "To Oldhammer without Oldhammer" was a matter of some discussion and they are willing to entertain at this moment in time (with no undertaking and on the understanding that they have no liability) a small feasibility study into your project.

It was proposed that this feasibility study should consist of one (1) battle narrative or game report, whereupon the committee will reassess the situation.

Please present this study, with illustrative material, in due course. The height, weight and absorbency of the participants as well as a complete and itemised list of any refreshments partaken of during the course of the feasibility study (with nutritional information) should be included in a separate annex.

Yours sincerely,

The Vole
Acting Secretary, The Committee for the Proper Regulation of Fun (provisional)

Its true. Sometimes I even disregard points values. And my Kroot Vulture Kindred are neither grim nor dark enough...

DONE. The link goes to my post in the "Battle Reports" part of this forum, which as well as providing preview material also provides links to each of the four (4) scenario reports from the campaign. I hope that it provides an easily measurable, classified and subsequently filed quantity of entertainment.
