Frog-loving wizard done!

More pictures on the ol' blog.

He was a pleasure to paint. Simple, straigthforward sculpt. I tried to give him sort of a menacing look, with a dead eye, but it doesn't really show on the pictures. Still have to work on my photography... Grumble...

The snow is baking soda+white paint+PVC glue.

In a fit of maoist auto-critique, I realized with this model that while aiming at a smooth, blended style, I land time and time again in Steve Deanesque territory. Only not as sharp. Which is fine, as I love what Steve Dean does. And I guess I don't have the time, or to be more honest the patience required to get real smooth blending :|

He is most excellent. And the snow is the best I've seen. Marvelous stuff.

PS: I have an old dwarf wizard figure too - not this one, another one. With spectacles and a book tucked under his arm. I used his pic recently in my current campaign thread. Here it is ...

Heh, never realised they were based on the same lower body. Check the coat. Crescent moons, patches and boots are the same.

Nice stuff, both of you!

Ha! Indeed! Never noticed that either. There is a Fantasia influence here...

Good job Padre. I have another one of those wizards to paint as well - at some point...

Such an awesome mini! I love it.

Have you tried using a wet pallet for blending? You can mix right on the pallet and you can get some really smooth transitions.

Wow...he looks great! I just love that figure...it has that sense of humor that is lost in modern WFB figures.

+1 for the use of a wet palette! I wouldn't even think of painting without these days.

Cheers,

Blue

Aye, give me one dorky faced miniature and you can keep the 1000's of perfectly sculpted and proportioned uber warriors

Lovely job Luikki

Aaaah, but did I know that? Did I know exactly what was going on and posted in the hope that someone would comment to point out the obvious and then I could say "Ha! I knew that, fool!"

Did I?

No.

Boys, boys... ;)

Bulldoglopez and Blue: You are both right, a wet palette would be a good way. I tried a few different drying retardant years ago, but with mixed results. Should give it a try once more.

Thanks for the feedback!
