Old Miniatures for Blackstone Fortress

Hi All,

Being a huge fan of Space Hulk, Space Crusade, 2nd Edition 40K and the like, and being mostly a 'solo' player, I've been looking on and off for a couple of years about picking up a copy of Blackstone Fortress - which can be played solo.

One of things that's always stopped me buying a copy though, is the look of the miniatures. I really can't get into the modern stuff, I just find them far too over stylised and not really playing pieces at all (with the possible exception of the Imperial Robot & the drones).

However, yesterday I picked up a copy of the game that is essentially sealed, although someone had pulled out all the minis, for the princely sum of £14.99. I had wondered about just using paper standees instead of miniatures, but it got me thinking about using old, or at least old style metal rogue trader mini's as proxies and building up a set along those lines.

Has anyone got any experience with BF, and any suggestions on stand ins for the Chaos Guardsmen and other 'monsters'? Do you think it would work?

Cheers!

no experience of blackstone fortress, but i'm confident you can do it. have a look at the in-production rogue trader alternatives thread above for starters.

Yeah I was just having a look through that thread - some very very interesting stuff on there.

Thanks!

Great idea. I've also vaguely though about doing the same thing. I think it would look amazing with lumpy old figures. Keep us posted on your progress!

Glad to hear it's not just me.

I think it would be a interesting project. I'm not a big fan of the new mini's, so not having them in the box is no great loss, but there's a lot of options for having some old (or new even) metal figures and having some fun putting it all together.
