Okay.. What's "Resin Sheet"?

ManicMan

Lord
I was going through WD '183 when Mike McVey went through an showed his new masterpiece, "The Emperor and Horus" and he comments on, for the background using plasticard, foam board an resin sheet. I'm not quite sure on what 'Resin Sheet' is.. as a sheet of resin doesn't sound... good.. and when looking online.. it just sounds like Plasticard.. though alot of the internet seams to think i mean other stuff which doesn't seam to be the same thing at all..

so I'm just wondering.. What is Resin Sheet anyway?

Did wonder but I don't think so..
"The Basic Structure of the diorama, the base, platform, stairs, pillar and back wall plus background were all constructed as separate pieces from plasticard, foam board and resin sheet (the pillar was actually made out of a length of plastic drainage piping!)"

not quite sure what else could fit.. though does later just say "plastic sheet" but nothing really later on to clear up things.

Always interesting the changes from Adrian Smiths' art (the change in Sanguinius position is a bit weird..) and the mistakes which are in both (Mk7 armour at the time of the Horus heresy?)

They got around the mk7 issue by saying it went in to production near the end of the heresy, after mars fell they shifted production to terra and started rolling out mk7.

Along with the cases of the caseless bolter ammunition flying everywhere ... although I expect there is an in-universe reason someone has come up with. My favourite "wrong" classic image is the one where the marine has the classic missile launcher held backwards.

Could resin sheet mean a cast sheet of some kind - so I have various roof and flooring "sheet" that has been cast in resin - bits like the corrugated iron roofing I used on the Legacy Crew diorama for instance. I might have to go and look/read myself and see if I can figure it out.

We used to call it a Rocket Jump. In the old days, It was a bit tricky to pull off without taking even minor damage, but good none the less ^_^

possible he cast up some bits but.. not sure.. I'm starting to think that short of a e-mail (which he might not even remember) it might be unknown.. I don't think I have any of the articles he did on scrap building dioramas around that time which he was meant to do.. I know he did an interesting one I was reading earlier on painting eyes.

Could it just be about materials at hand and how their thickness worked for different parts of the build?

Nothing to do with the original question, but is there are a lore reason for one blood angel going all harry potter under the stairs/platform?

Hahah, love that! Wasn't a combat veteran, I assume.
@ManicMan: That's a blast from the past (no pun intended) and I remember that stuff too. I've got a faint memory of it being a thing in first GTA and using it to jump on rooftops of buildings. If landing back on the ground fall damage was probably fatal for player character.

That would be my guess. Advantage of resin over HIPs (plasticard) is you can steam it or heat gun it to bend into shape. Makes it good for dressing a non-rectilinear wall, doing pipes etc.
