Number of summoned demons and magical number of Chaos Gods

We have been playing a few WFB 3rd scenarios in the last weekends and we encountered some problems with the Summon Demon spells. In the rulebook the spell Summon Lesser Demons, for example, dictates that 3d6 lesser demons appears, but when we read the RoC books there is always a constant with the magical number of Chaos Gods (8 for Khorne, 6 for Slaanesh…) and that the demons must be deployed according these numbers -- the units must have that number of members.

So, when a chaos wizard casts a spell to summon demons (with the pentagram rules of Armies/RoC books, of course), how many demons come to this real and old world?

I think it's the random number (Xd6) of the spell, but I would like to read your opinions and experiences.

Re: Number of summoned demons and magical number of Chaos Go

I'd go with the random number. In my head canon the fixed daemonic numbers for army units are because they're summoned/bound for a longer period and so using their number makes it easier to bind them as a semi-permanent unit, whereas on-the fly summoned daemons are a more random, transient affair.

Thank you for your answer, dieselmonkey. That’s what I think.
