Nightmare 2019AD Mass Scale Oldhammer Hell

So, I'll start with an introduction, where it came from.
Namely its roots are in 2009 - the period where I had my first pause from Rogue Trader. That's when I created Mars 2050.

Here is how a setting starts (post on my Tumblr blog)

Further images from 2010.

Further images from 2011.

Image from 2012.

I first started working on a Close Combat mod with it, then a Firefight mod and finally in 2011 on an Armored Brigade mod. That setting spawned the
assorted Nightmare settings.
I started more seriously getting interested in it when I got back into wargaming mid-2018. At that point I didn't like the horror of war and how brutes bring it to peaceful lands so I thought of a sort of military hell that has no civilians in it.

The Nightmare 2019AD is actually split into different time periods with most of my art being set in "2005AD". 2019AD was based on late WWI and 2005AD was based on Russo-Japanese war.

Nightmare 2019AD

A hellish alternative dimension where souls of soldiers go to fight in eternal war. Powerful radium-based weapons and armoured landships devastate the land.

Later I remembered that conscription is a thing and changed the description.

Nightmare 2019AD

A hellish dimension where there’s eternal war. Brutes are responsible for almost all the gang violence and wars. In Nightmare 2019AD, they go to Hell where they belong and fight and die repeatedly for enjoyment of the Dark Gods of Hell. They are trapped in never-ending nightmare that they deserve.

I'll skip the drawings from the time of the quest to git gud which are now lost to obscurity and will get straight to the time when I started getting support.

20211026

Grenadiers are advancing supported by a battleship. Or perhaps the other way around.
20211029

Naval infantry advancing with support of a large Monitor.

20211110

Grenadiers advancing through no-mans-land.

(...)

Huh. One thing I thought yesterday, which inspired me to draw it is how ridiculously intense my life as a disabled person is. Like for example my mother having to go through life and fight for contracts every year, and every year there being a chance that we won’t get any contract and since I’m disabled, I won’t be able to get/keep a job, so it’s a death sentence for me.

Like it’s just facing death at the end of the year, year after year after year. And odds getting worse every year, with this year being the worst so far due to number of places we can even try to get a contract in decreasing over time - like them having requirements regarding number of personnel that is impossible to fulfill due to race to bottom competition, them trying to do various shady thing and good cooperation ending, etc.

I’m pretty sure most of people don’t have these “OMG I’m going to die” moments or rather months every fucking year.

So, it inspired me to draw this.

20211130

Landships and naval infantry assaulting enemy line.

20211226

Grenadiers attacking enemy position with support of a large monitor.

I was heavily inspired by Oldhammer illustrations of Ian Miller and series Der Krieg by Otto Dix.

Month of Ink Day 1: Tankette

Have spent an hour doing three page of sketches and 31m drawing the drawing. After doing three pages of sketches I decided to make one based on the top right thumbnail on the middle page. Forgot to draw the banner XD .
This one was from the "2019AD" version of the setting.

Feeling super stressed out. Also, out of work budget, so no new artworks for now.

Month of Ink Day 8: Tactics

Today I slept only 3,5 hours and couldn’t get back to sleep due to extreme stress, so my productivity has tanked. I realised that I never actually wrote that challenge includes doing 30m of sketches a day, so I skipped them and just did the final drawing.

A grenadier battalion attacking enemy trenches. It’s supported by two heavy machine guns and a battery of light rocket guns.

Two companies are providing cover fire while two others advance.

Month of Ink Day 10: Annihilation

A platoon position in process of being annihilated by heavy artillery.

A new artwork from my Nightmare 2019AD series. Took me 26m of drawing and 33m of preparatory sketches.

It depicts a situation where half of a division of Protected Cruisers (that is two landships - the rest got destroyed by enemy artillery), together with a Protected Cruiser flagship and which was later joined by a Destroyer division managed to break through the first and second enemy lines after two Minesweepers made way through main obstacle belt.
The Protected Cruisers found a location of enemy 57mm rocket howitzer battery. After Destroyer division joined them, naval infantry dismounted from them and pinpointed the locations of enemy guns and infantry allowing the Protected Cruisers to make a short work of them.

Protected cruisers are armed with a bunch of 25mm and 20mm rocket guns and with radium heat-rays and torpedoes.

A new artwork. Took me 22m to draw. 7h34m of work budget remaining.

Rystor Technical pen on 120gsm Gamma Accademia paper.

I wanted to draw a page of sketches but ended up drawing a whole drawing. A fragment of a naval assault against enemy position. A Battleship followed by Destroyers carrying naval infantry.Massive firepower of the Battleship annihilates/routs the defenders which will allow the naval infantry to occupy the enemy positions.

A new artwork. Infantry was attacking an enemy position. It started taking fire from an enemy strong-point. It stopped and called a Battleship to help. It arrived soon and destroyed the enemy strong-point with its withering firepower.
Statistics:
-Drawing time: 30m in two sessions.
-Sketching time: 25m
-Work budget remaining: 3h9m
-Paper: Bristol
-Tool: Sakura Pigma Micron 02

I was trying to include smoke from smaller guns firing.

A page of sketches. Took me 23m to draw. 14m of work budget remaining. The first one was the battleship in the centre, second monitor in the bottom and the last cropped battleship on the top.

Had 37m of work budget left. I wanted to draw a high effort page of sketches of landships. Partially to see how far I can get that stuff and if it would be possible to do a high effort three session drawing one day.

Unfortunately I made an error of not stopping after 18 minutes. By the time I was doing the second sketch or maybe at the end of first sketch, I was tired and my ability to maintain precision has tanked.

Please consider donating to support my work. I'm disabled due to chronic health problems and lower back injury and I can't get disability pension or unemployment benefits because the country I live in has deliberate and genocidal policy of starving disabled and unneeded people.

A page of sketches. 39m of work done in three sessions. 2h31m of work budget remaining.
Was inspired to do another high effort page of Nightmare 2019AD sketches.
This time I made sure I would keep session short enough to not lose focus.

The slightly clearer ones?
contrast. Some of your images, you have the figures generally darker (like in this last few) with lighter (more sparse lines) which show contrast light and dark more so you can make out details much clearer then when some of the lines are pretty close together, for example 20211029 is pretty thick on the lines for characters and background so it can be a bit hard to make out much of the details of the figures. If you look at some of the old rouge trader line drawings, or various ones by various artists, the thickness of the line CAN be used for light-dark contrast but also how spaced out the lines are.

Or atleast I think that's what he means and what I would make a comment on. Of course, your style so take or leave any comments as you see fit.

Another page of high effort sketches. Took me 49m in three sessions. 1h46m of work budget remaining.

This time mostly minesweepers clearing paths through minefields. Then on the left, a battleship attacking enemy position. I'm not happy with perspective in this one since enemies appear much closer than I intended.

Sakura Pigma Micron 02 on Bristol. Ugh, the pen is getting used up. Luckily I have one more left. Also, managed to accidentally break one day before yesterday when I was putting cap on.

This trench with squad of 10 brutes was a part of a defence system that was holding up attacking Naval Infantry until it received a few salvoes from a Battleship at close range.
It was hit with 57mm radium shells from railgun, 25mm radium rockets, 20mm radium rockets and radium heatrays.
The result was swift annihilation of the squad.

Yeah, I guess the stuff from 2021 was pretty bad. Especially with the level of distress I was experiencing at that point and problems with pens (gel pen brand I was using since 2015 drastically dropped in quality mid-2021).

Also, I only got really serious about learning from combat footage back in January, 2022.

I started using much higher quality art supplies in 2023 due to LARPing a professional artist and then in May I moved to pretty much exclusively using technical pens for artworks which probably has helped a lot with clarity.

I'm no longer posting here since the community ended up agreeing with the genociders. I still post on Ko-fi as long as I have work budget.
