New Kev Adams Chaos Dwarf Figures

The models are great, but overall much larger than the Citadel models!

It's probably as our eyes all get worse ... :)

Some nice sculpts, I liked the Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer on the FB page. One day I'll tackle my ragtag collection of random chaos dwarf models (hopefully all moderately similar sized, but they are from various places)

you can... and I 've not go direct experience with this stuff, get stuff so you cast the mould and then shrink it by up to a 1/4th.. or enlarge.. always seamed interesting but never really felt like dealing with the stuff..
still, nice sculpts but yeah.. Human height dwarfs? well.. Chaos Mutations ^_^

That's kinda true... alginate shrinks as it dries out and can be used make small reductions (nothing like 25%). I have seen it used to good effect in stage scenery. However at the size and level of detail we're talking about... not so useful. Repeated use of black rubber moulds can shrink a model (the oft-cited proof of a recast) but it takes 4 or 5 successive bakings to significantly change the size of a model and at current prices that's about £300... you'd have to really want to shrink that model! Plus you get distortion you can't control as a model shrinks, so thin pieces will shrink more than thick pieces causing warping, loss of detail and overly-brittle elements. I don't know any magic substance that expands as it sets, thereby enlarging the model... I wish it did exist sometimes!

true.

Looks like a company called 'Smooth-on' s claiming to use there mould silicone with some solvent.. they claim it'll be good but.. yeah, Don't really wanna test that kinda thing myself.

Smooth on are an excellent company with top rate products, but even so I imagine they would be fine for film/tv/theatre props (their target market) but not so much on 'our' scale.

I would imagine the best way (but not cheap necessarily) to scale an existing model these days would be to have it 3D scanned, cleaned up and 3D resin printed at the desired scale.

Indeed. But to be able to scan a model that small you need a really, really good setup. Then of course you would need to put the resin back into a low temp silicone mould to cast it in proper metal!
