MYSTERY - rogue trader - help needed!

Hi everyone!
Does anyone know anything about this book that could help document its story ?
Best detective hats needed !

Probably de-covered and (semi)professionally re-bound. I've seen a few around now.

I wouldn't say it was officially or professionally done, as the gold blocking doesn't look too well done, and it's never been called 'Rogue 40000 Trader'.

Yeah, it's just poor letter-spacing, people familiar with working with letterforms take the visual alignment into account, even to the point of cutting away the metal so that the letters sit together properly, or firing up separately so you can create the even visual rhythm. WA are a well known 'kerning pair' because of the diagonals.

definitely glue-y rather than sewn though - I'm guessing it wouldn't take much of a beating before pages started coming loose

That depends on a few things, the type of glue, a good PVA is nice and flexible - it will be transparent, hot glue is liable to go brittle over time and is likely to be slightly yellow, if a decent hessian or muslin cloth has been used as a spine lining (or super) - this is likely to be visible underneath the end-papers as a raised area, this will be stronger and more flexible than a paper one (or none at all). How you treat the book - whether you force the book to lay flat, which cracks the spine or hold it at an angle. The best thing about unsewn books is how easy they are to repair, line of glue, a bit of weight and it's done!

More photos would be interesting, are there fancy end-papers?

"The endpapers or end-papers of a book (also known as endsheets) are the pages that consist of a double-size sheet folded, with one half pasted against an inside cover, and the other serving as the first free page. Thus, the front endpapers precede the title page and the text, whereas the back endpapers follow the text." thanks google

This picture - same front & back. excuse the ++++ webcam quality. real camera charging.
changing the subject slightly, but I got a book joke about a thesaurus... perfect opportunity to share it.

My new thesaurus is terrible.
Its also terrible.

I would guess someones copy that fell apart and was re-done. My copy certainly fell apart so the rules section ended up in a loose ring binder.

Yeah, sorry, bookbindery is a whole world of nerd terminology.

Nice endpapers! Were they the ones from the original binding? I can't check as I holepunched mine when it fell apart. If they are, then do those sheets over-lap the cover material, or does the cover material overlap them?

A lot of the GW books from that era are prone to loose pages; My Warhammer City book is partially loose leaf now and I've yet to see a copy of Chapter Approved Book of the Astronomican that is in one piece!

I had my copy handy - the endpaper image in his rebound copy is the same picture as my original, but reversed? (Orks are on the right, marines on the left)

Front and back image (front image shown above) are identical to each other and face the same way in my copy.

Is that book possibly one of the limited edition anniversary copies? I think this might have been the book that was inside the awesome slip cover/case set?

Hey Ogryn - thanks for the input! not familiar with the set you're referring to - seaching "Rogue Trader anniversary" - all I'm seeing is Nick Leeson's reflections on bringing down Barings Bank... which anniversary are you referring to? a recent one?
