My old lead

I'll try and keep all my stuff to one thread for convenience as I've got a lot piled up.

First up, I recently stripped this lot.

and they're now looking like this.

I'm going to do three at a time and I started some today.

I did notice one detail that my previous paint job has covered, ARMPIT HAIR! I based in it orange but I hate it so I'm going to do it a more natural colour like black or brown but it did get me thinking, how much hair do slayers dye? All of their body hair?

Do we really want to know?

I also started blocking out the flesh on an old Guardsman.

0% armpit hair on view.

The slayers have come on a bit but I've been really busy with my day job so things have slowed a little. A few weeks ago I designed a display base for them as I wanted them all to be facing the same direction without the problem of them all punch each other in the face. I 3d printed one after doing a quick design.

once painted and based, it came out ok.

and it's currently filling up as I finish more slayers.

Coming along nicely and I’m intrigued by your unconventional approach to the display base. Aesthetically, it’s quite pleasing, but I’m assuming that the driver was that the slayers would only fit 20mm bases with diagonal slots.

Is your base for display only or will you also use it as a movement tray in games where ranks and frontage could be an issue for some?

Display only. Its unlikely I'll ever play a game again but yeah, its a bit of a wrong shape for a proper movement tray.

I tried fitting a few in the straight line slots on old GW and more modern bases but still had the problem of their weapons or fists sticking out at funny angles. I figured this was an easy way of getting round the problem and also making a display base for them.

Quite. Strange that GW gave so little thought to fitting their figures on the correct bases and then ranking them up for use in what was their flagship game.

I’ve toyed with the idea of round sabot basing for my fantasy figures but can’t face the hassle of rebasing or overcome my square bases for WFB conditioning.

That was my problem. These guys would look good on round bases but I couldn't do it. The off chance that the new WFB is good and I may play it was too much of a draw as well as the purist in me felt a bit wrong even thinking about it.

I think we need a tour of the rest of that cabinet, I spy many intriguing paint jobs lurking in the background

It's a bit of a mess but here we go.

It lives in our cellar and it's dry down here. I have my workshop/office/mancave in it and it was the only place the missus let me put it. It lives next to my RPG shelves although the Dort put some of her books on the top and they've not left. Due to the bad lighting I had to use a flash to get these so excuse the harsh light in the photos.

The top shelf is assorted marine characters, some hardware and a rogue gobbo. I've got the new Marneus figure to go with the other three, I've just not put it together yet.

The next shelf is rank and file marines. I have a 3rd unit of scouts somewhere and a 4th tactical squad.

This shelf was originally bookmarked for my chaos and 1k sons army but got cleared out for the WFB stuff I'm stripping and repainting.

Now we're getting to a proper army. I've played guard since the RT days and have a load of tanks and hardware kicking around in travel boxes. This shelf is some support units and Inquisition. Plus another rogue greenskin.

4 Cadian squads and a heavy as well as two command groups and my repainted old RT guard. Theres a handful more to paint and add to those RT boyos. I also have a box of stripped metal Catachan with about 40+ grunts, special weapons, command groups. No idea where they will go if I ever paint them.

AoS + Underworlds gangs as well as couple of familiar faces from WFB. Theres some Discworld at the back if you squint hard enough.

Bob Murch pulp minis, a load of Fenris games bits and a skeli from Heresy.

Ground floor. Bob Murch Cthulhu, A Teronus that I got in the 90s and a few assorted "I must paint them" figures that aren't in my lead pile.

^That's a nice collection you have on display in your cabinet. (And a fun basement in general.) Looks like a good cave in which to spend many a happy hour. :)

That was joy, thank you for the open door to peruse your bountiful cabinet DrMonkeyface :) Splendid Dwarves there.

I think the base you designed is cracking, very smart it is & does help alleviate that problem which always bugged me too.

Not sure where others stand on it's merits or practical application, but I think it could see a lot of interest from many sections of TT gaming.

Have you released it as file online yet?

Oh, & WOW, that great big beautiful Cthulhu :o  Where the hell is that from? Is it still around to be purchased on the market?

Is that 'Teronus The Ultimate Dragon' down there too?
