Right on!
Good looking selection of orcs & you cleared the basing & undercoating hurdle. ;)
I look forward to your progress.

The one-off Kev Adams conversion. It's ace, I keep meaning to ask him to do a similar conversion for my wyvern rider...

Hes the leader of this unit, middle of second row :)

Do you mean the orcs he did for Harlequin/Black Tree?

Or maybe his Renegade orcs?

Next in queue. Did these for BOYL'13, they need finishing. Then it's on to the boarboyz,

I'm only posting these cos I know I should be painting something...

I have the boar rider this guy was based on ready to try and recreate this conversion for my complete set of Goblinoids combat cards. Quite a task though! I haven't dared start yet.

Your Orc skin tones are phenomenal, step-by-step please? :)

Lovely skin tone and a great collection of old orcs to make the unit, very jealous of all that heavy lead. Not so jealous of painting all those leather pouches and belts though!

Step one, fill your wellingtons with sun-ripened Stilton. Step two, put on "Tell me what you want" by Spice Girls. The rest is improvisation of the highest order.

Top stuff Hetz! Love the battered armour of the Ruglud's regiment!

Cheers everyone, Phreedh, you ain't too far off!

I use Vallejo paints, mainly model colour, over a black undercoat. Orc skin is a base coat of medium olive mixed with black covering all but the deepest recesses. The thinner the better as you can layer it a tad leaving the skin darker in the deeper parts. Then same again with just medium olive. Hilights with medium olive mixed with lime green up to just lime green mixed with white, depends how bothered I can be :)
I paint details on in addition to the sculpted ones. I quite often hilight accidentally painted detail cos it looks cool. It really is unplanned get in the groove stuff. Interspersed with lots of prevarication, playing computer games and doing anything to avoid sitting down and actually painting and getting in the groove

You asked for it, hope it helps. Now someone tell me how to actually sit down and get to it when you have time, because its all I want to do when I don't have the time...

Bane, the pouches and Ramage look so cool, but they are such a fecking pita to paint - I quite often leave 'em black!

Thanks for the interest, it actually made me paint a bit more  So I did a little wip...

Step one; the basecoat of Med Olive and Black over the black undercoat. As you can see it's quite rough, that doesn't matter too much. (The painting looks awful in these pics, looks a lot better to the naked eye - honest guv!)

Step two; Looks much the same but I've started to highlight with just Medium Olive.

Step three; Medium Olive and Lime Green now

Step four; Lime Green, with a little Sand Yellow. The blacker parts were overpainted with Medium Olive as I thought they were too black - missed that bit by his nose I see...

Step five; Needed toning down a tad, so a quick wash. I used Gryphonne Sepia, but I've just used a paint wash before, anything to tone it down and soften the edges a bit. Had to start his mouth too.

Step six; Finished the mouth, just Sand Yellow with varying amounts of Mahogany Brown for the teeth. He's a bit rough close up, but as I've got a whole lead mountain waiting (haven't most of us) I'm happy enough with him.

Thanks for the tutorial. My orc army has had about 4 different skin tones over the years. None have completely satisfied me. And now you tempt me with this excellent and easy skin recipe. The old orc horde could be about to have their 5th paint.
