Multi game campaign in the Grim Darkness

Tyranid_Attack.jpeg

After chatting with Thantsants and others, it seems some of us share a common ideal or fantasy : a multi game campaign.
I believe there's no better opportunity than BOYL to make this happen as the past editions have proved games of all kinds and size can happen there.

EDIT : after a quick thinking, it doesn't even have to happen all at BOYL after all.

What is this all about ?

Simple.

We create a series of games using different rule sets that will all be linked via a scenario and most games will interact with events in other games.
The possible games could be :

- Space fleet
- Space hulk (the link with SPace fleet being quite natural)
- Rogue trader (skirmish)/confrontation
- Rogue trader / 40k 2nd ed for mass battles
- Epic (can be influenced by all games above)

For now :
- The ideas were revolving around Tyrannids (in the broad sense, meaning genestealers, zoats, etc... are totally in) invading an imperial sector but more faction could be fitted with the proper scenario.

- The campaign would involve many games which means some people could take parts in many games or in just a single game while still being part of the big thing.

These are all broad lines to be defined.
Basically, just like the way it's usually done for BOYL, people would just have to commit to a game and then the organisers would assign special missions, objectives and probably make events happen like in any good GMed game.

Just some ideas to tease :

- A genestealer coven has been assigned to eliminate an especially powerful astropath choir which could represent a threat for the coming of the 4-armed gods... (RT/ confrontation)
- An imperial astropath choir has spotted a possible tyrannid invasion and sent an imperial fleet to intercept the tyrannid ships before they reach the inhabited sectors (Space fleet /BFG)
- the hive queen has been spotted amongst the tyrannid fleet and a tectical team has been assigned to board the hive ship and deal with it. (Space hulk)
- the tyrannids have spotted a source of high energy/power plant and have decided to attack it to weaken the defense (or spotted inhabited areas to find organic ressource)
- and so on.

We'll compile ideas here and to possible games included in this campaign.

1) I'm in.

2) What needs to be done to help plan and organise?

1) cool

2) For now, probably sorting out what you have that's available to play either side in the games you'd fancy playing. That done you can suggest a game happening during or prior to BOYL. If you want to commit more we could probably set a little group of GMs who would drive some order in all the games and provide the help required (mainly providing scenarii and gaming help like this).
I've already received game propositions that could make a perfect prequel for this all.

I'll take a model and scenery inventory next week once things calm down here. I do have a lovely scenery bit that I know would be fantastic. I just need to round up someone who plays nids -- or just assume that we're dealing with hapless human stooges who don't know that there's a conspiracy behind their orders.

Ah the Grim Darkness populated by brightly coloured aliens - just how I like it!

Great to see all the enthusiastic responses on here as well as Facebook.

I was wondering if a simple way of tying all this together (as well as assigning missions and all the GM stuff we'll be doing) would be reports from all the different games appearing on the Oldhammer blog which has been somewhat neglected for some time now - I'm thinking they'd be done in the style of Imperial reports from the front lines or the Hivemind's perception of events in different theatres of war (I'm still working out how the Hivemind would sound!).

I have these 1st Edition Tyranids that are/can be made ready for BOYL17.

I would also be happy to run games of Advanced Space Crusade (which I have) if people want to attack a Tyranid Hive Ship with their forces/biomass.

(There is a 3rd SK around somewhere...)

Having terminators boarding a nid ship would be brilliant if you could take care of that Rob, I'm really happy to see some great ideas are already forming here and that a lot of cool people are up for this. I'll take the time to form a rough frame for this all just to give some ideas. I believe this can be done quite easily if people (like it's been the case so far) offer to play a game, a team of Campaign GMs can connect all those games making the work evenly dispatched in manageable tasks (in teh end players wouldn't have much more to do than for a regular game).

I will get this painted up and maybe even based if we can get a suitable scenario for it. Heck, I'll write a scenario. It could fit a few bugs inside.

This is excellent.

So far i've been thinking about dividing this in seasons.

Season 1 : The prequel

It could start in December this year, we would have a few games that settle the general mood and probably some pieces for a future puzzle

Season 2 : The gathering

More games could be played throughout the globe to link as many stories as we want/need

Season 3 : the finale

This could end at BOYL with many players in one place, that's probably where the biggest battles would be fought with advantages for both sides deriving from former games.

That sounds like a great structure. The "prequel" games will let us build up and develop the characters of the campaign, and then the final showdowns can happen at BOYL.

Due to BOYL17 being a bit earlier I am not 100% sure I can attend but I could do some prequel games of the Marine forces making contact with Tyranid ships and boarding them for recon of the threat...

I'll soon take th etime to make a sub forum or FB page (don't know which) to organise things, I should have imperial ships at some point to play a space fleet game. Yours could be the direct follow up of this and the final twist of the "chapter"

That would work for me, particularly if the Imperial forces are attempting to disable a Tyranid ship for the purposes of boarding and investigation...

Ladies & Gentlemen,

In my efforts to collect a couple of reasonable sized forces of Tyranids & Eldar for Space Fleet - I've acquired a few plastic imperial vessels from the game boxes, They'll never see the light of day with me - so, would any of you want them for your collections? As their plastic and no real weight I'll even pay the postage (within reason - Europe, apologies to everybody outside the union, but I'm not that generous).

Hi! I could use some more Imperial ships. I have the old Space Fleet game and want to expand. Are they still available?
