Post: Mr Gandalf
Managed to get paint on Mr Gandalf recently. He was one of those eBay rescues. Picked up for a reasonable price. In 2021 I went through a mad phase of buying Gandalf minis. Not sure why… but he’s a great figure in metal.
Nothing fancy in the painting technique. I used a Vallejo Game colour grey as the base. All his clothes were painted with that. For the shade I mixed in a bit of black and “wet blended” it into the creases.
Then I dry brushed the whole thing with a lightened version, and then in white. Finally I gave the whole tunic a simple, watery Dark Blue Wash.
Flesh
Again, no fancy techniques. War colours Nostalgia 88 paint for the flesh base. The highlight was the same with some white mixed in. No wash here.
Staff
This was painted with Vallejo Khaki. Walked with Vallejo brown ink. Then dry brushed with khaki and white. Done.
Beard.
Painted black as a base colour and hand painted 2 or 3 shades of progressively lighter grey. Then dry brushed with white several times.
Some people don’t like dry brushing. My feeling is… it gets the job done. It’s not right for every job, but if it works… keep it.
