Modelling Carpet

anyone have much advice for how to base something given it a sense of a kinda normal light carpet? I was wondering about some form of flock and then painting it but I'm not sure if that would really work well and look more like carpet.

I made a rug once, miliput base layer and then used a toothbrush to create a pile effect by dabbing it onto the surface.

do you want the structure cry carpet, or the way it is painted?

I can see how a toothbrush might help. needs to be fairly thin. It's basically for a little diorama I'm working on. (decided some figures I got which will never be used for gaming or just can't really be used, would work well in little diorama's). there is a later problem that the carpet is based on one which exists but I don't have a decent image of for the design but that's.. a later issue ^_^

Look in charity shops for clothes with a similar carpetey texture?

Like the idea of looking in charity shops but I get the feeling it'll be far more effort then it's worth, and time, to find just the right one.. and know it'll take the paint well etc..

basically, just flocking it,
does bring up some paint issues can't remember how well flock takes paint..
