Minotaur Army Question

Dwarf

Serf
Hello again,

Another rules question if I may. I'm looking to play a few friendly games of 3rd Edition Fantasy and wanted to play a predominantly Minotaur based Chaos Army. My friend has a fairly standard Empire army with a mixture of infantry, cavalry and cannons etc.

I'm just learning the rules and am building a list, but I'm concerned that it might be a bit too focused, lacking variety. We're only playing for fun, but I find the best games are when both players have an equal chance of winning and as such, would like to ask if this list is reasonable, or will it simply lose every game (and be no fun for me or my opponent)?

3000 points

Minotaur Hero lvl 5
Minotaur Hero lvl 5
Minotaur Hero lvl 5
Minotaur Standard Bearer lvl 5
Minotaur Doombull lvl 20 General
Beastmen Shaman lvl 15

4 x Minotaur + armour + 2-handed (Doombull and BSB go here)
5 x Minotaur + armour + 2-handed + standard
5 x Minotaur + armour + 2-handed + standard
5 x Minotaur + armour + 2-handed + standard

Chaos Host
Chimera
5 x chaos hounds
5 x chaos hounds

Mercenaries
Giant

A specific question, is that my Shaman has no unit to join. Will this be a problem, or is he ok by himself? (I could mount him on a chaos steed if that would help)

Thanks very much.

On a tactical side.......well any hero walking alone is simply a target for all that can shot or throw something at him. I would hide him into a unit.

Its probably worth reading up on the stomp, gore and bite attacks, Im not sure which minotaurs get in 3rd ed, but its either a bonus attack OR you have to do one of your attacks with no weapon as the gore.

I thought I'd already responded...

Like the idea, think it would look great on the table.

The list doesn't give you a great deal of strategic options to play with - being out-gunned and out-manouvered by the Empire is likely to be a problem. Some ranged units, and some faster troops (although the warhounds aren't too bad there) might help mix things up.

And the shaman can join and leave any unit as it wants.

I think the Minotaur just has two standard attacks, and victims save is reduced by 1, They do suffer from Blood-greed tho.

I recall a competitive game at a gamesday many moons ago. I think it would been 3rd edition era. The guy used a combination of goblin units and minotaurs to great effect. The minotaur units separated the goblin units from each other thus avoiding animosity, the minotaurs soaked up missile fire as the bigger figures but suffered little damage thus protecting the gobs. Then when they got close to the enemy lines they unleashed ball and chain fanatics.
