So with the blessings of Mods and Admins I will share my new project.
I am still very much doing my Warm Ale and Mud, and in fact there is some degree of cross over in terms of models, terrain and so on.
I did post a while back about the Warhammer English Civil War rules; post HERE.
This however will showcase the models and the process.
I have ordered Bicorne Miniatures as the bulk of the rank and file, these will be augmented with the excellent looking Bloody Miniatures.
Why ECW ?
The appeal is a few factors.
I have completed both my WFB 3rd edition opposing `armies`.
I still have villagers and the buildings to do, but you have to love the sight of painted army no?
So this will scratch that new army itch.
Gameplay wise:
Whilst the various armies are similar they do have their own strengths and weaknesses, but not enough to make games unbalanced.
1000 points of Royalists is a fair match for a 1000 points of Parliamentarians.
1000 points of halflings however is no match for 1000 points of ogres, and a 250 point steam tank with a T10 can take on 200,000 points of goblin warriors.
The nature of fantasy is that some races and things are simply more powerful than others, hence the whole PV system.
But even that is no guarantee of a playable game.
So the ECW games will be more evenly matched in terms of forces.
Plus there are less random things to upset the balance, no spells that can pretty much render the other side useless.
I like my main WFB opponent but his magic spell random dice rolls are blessed by the chaos gods themselves, especially his 10mm chaos dudes that can summon a horde of demons.
I only have one model that beat the demons and he is not that hard to kill.
Even with my WFB 3rd edition limits of magic levels and magical items, with some good dice rolling one side can have a large advantage over the other even before the game begins.
So the ECW will be much more balanced.
No winning from min-max listing building and or lucky pre-game rolls.
Scenario Wise:
It will also be easier to write scenarios for I feel.
Greedy humans all want the same things, so battles contesting terrain, supplies, people etc will all work.
Undead, Orcs, and Humans do not share the same values and if Carmilla Halven the wife of my Stirland Count is called a fat mare by an Orc, the Count will not go to war over it as who cares what some dumb Orc says, if it is even understood.
The undead are not likely to raid the Pertwee farm for food and grain or wool, they don’t need it.
ECW games however have much more scope for such things, given the forces are led by posh wealthy types they will see offence everywhere and demand satisfaction.
So much opportunity for small clashes outside strategic battles.
Farm raids, witch hunts, escorting ladies, chasing spies, busting smuggling rings, convoy ambushes, etc.
Beginnings and Plans:
I also started a blog for those that do that sort of thing, LINKY.
The blog has 3 followers which is a very surprising and pleasant start.
Whilst I wait for the models, I fired up my laser cutter, made some trays and bases.
I am not quite sure how big the gun base will need to be but I can always cut another if that is no good.

So that is it for now, I am off to read more about uniforms and so on, and as the blog hints, decide what of that I shall choose to ignore.
