Michael's Mordheim Mashup

So having decided to play a version of Mordheim but in my rural setting of Heiligsheld I just need to decide the feel.

I am torn between a more traditional WFB style of model and a sort of more historical Hammer Horror style model.

I am thinking models that are much less war and more day to day, for example my wife will be playing an undead vampire led warband and whilst I have a WFB vampire, it is very fantasy, I am tempted to use a regular female noble as the vampire.
Just pale skin and maybe red eyes.

Same with my own warband, which is likely to be witch hunters.
I imagine a witch hunter and his entourage coming to Heiligsheld.
For the witch hunter, I am thinking less warrior and more magistrate and his priest more of a puritan preacher.

I am wanting to make it more historical in its look and low key.
So yes vampires, zombies, werewolves, witches and all that jazz, but without all the skulls.

One reason for this is my wife and I watch old Hammer Horror films and we love the vibe and it would be cool to play that.
I would like to stick to oldhammer models if possible, but all the GW Witch Hunters seem to have comically oversized swords and pistols.
They look like toys not models.

Why the hell is his pistol bigger than he is?

I guess that is the problems of using 4th edition and later models.
3rd and prior had their design rooted in history and low fantasy, 4th onwards was very high fantasy.

Here is a model I am thinking of using as the Witch Hunter, I will remove the cane and replace it with a sword, unless that thing on his left hip is indeed a sword, in which case I shall not.

And if I use him as the Witch Hunter, then this chap as the Priest:

I would rather use old citadel models, for the Empire people though.
So if you can think of anything please do say.

One option actually for a priest which is possibly more tempting is this chap, who is indeed an ex-citadel model.

However this is clearly a bit more fighty so were I to pick this as the priest I would need a slightly more fighty Witch Hunter.

The Witch Hunter himself does not need to look like a typical model, he can be just a grim looking professional warrior, ones like this may well work:

Anyway, that is my rambling over for now.

TLDR:

I would prefer a GW oldhammer selection / style of models and I have a vampire for this half painted.
But if no suitable Witch Hunter can be found I will go the Hammer Horror route and use the historical models above, I also have a vampire model for this.

Please do suggest old citadel models you think may work as a Witch Hunter.

TIA

It's not Citadel but there's some nice monks in the Barons War range by footsore miniatures that might make passable priests, ones got a nice cross and another's carrying a big ass book.

Don't foundry make a Mathew Hopkins mini or did I imagine that?

isn't that first one (first post) the Warhammer quest figure? also, that's not too bad a size for a medieval pistol, admittedly, more on the English Civil War I period then earlier.. when you see the big handles from a 1300 German Hand cannon (heavy and about the size of a rifle) to the big pistols some of the mounted.. what's the name.. Pistolle's? something like that, had by the time of the ECWI, it is a surprised.. also, goes with the standard feel of figures of the time where weapons were often a bit bigger. modern '100% in scale' figures just look soo wrong to me.. small hands, small heads...

Right, work begins on the notheim stuff.

Each warband needs a leader and the more dramatic the better right?
Seeing as I am sticking with Warhammer feels and not going down the Hammer Horror route I have these 2 as my warband leaders.

The vampire Ingrid Karnstein and hunter of the undead Piotr Von Heiligsheld and his hound Kiszen.

Nothing is finished yet, Ingrid is a WIP.

Got a nice 'Nosferatu' from eBay a while ago, might use him for a Mordheim warband. Been meaning to play Mordheim since it came out but everyone I knew at the time were 40k purists so the nearest I got was Necromunda.

I tweak the rules when I use them.
I use 3rd edition mechanics but I use the skills where applicable and the experience system from Mordheim.

I find the 4th edition engine too quick.
Like WS vs like WS is 4+ rather than 5+, which makes combat quicker as you hit more easily.
Str alters the saving throw, makes armour less useful.
Chargers attack first rather than it being Initiative based, makes defensive play harder.
These and other things which came about with 4th edition make the game much quicker and deadlier, I prefer the slower mechanics of 3rd where armour works and defensive play is a thing.

Horses for Courses though of course.

The more I read 3rd the more I'm liking it over 4th. Less magic items to worry about is great, and the way the spells are organised, not a fan of the themed 'colleges of magic' decks. No stupidly OP special characters either.

Even the lore (or lack of it) is better, I'd sooner set my games away from the studios meta lore, plenty of empty real estate on the old world map I could set my games without it clashing with the siege of praag for example. And the fact the Lady of the Lake isn't a thing in 3rd. Bloody Elves. 🤬🤬

Yet to actually play a game, but I think I'm gonna prefer 3rd over later editions.

Oh, 3ed have stupidly OP special characters (though the ones in 4ed I don't remember being THAT overpowered).. they just don't give pre-made ones.. just tell you how to make them yourself, which is where most of the 4ed special characters came from ^_^

I have several of those Dogs of War minis. Those were great. Each one had a distinct look. Johan and Wilhelm were both in my Witchunter Warband. EBAY prices on on Mordheim models are high. I spotted the Flagellants and Zealots for 89$ US. It did include the Zealot with the hand puppet bishop. For the record Mordheim was a great game.
