Metal chaos renegade backpack?

Hi folks,

I've just received 3 chaos renegades from an ebay purchase and while getting ready to give them the obligatory dettol dip I realised one of them has a metal powerplant/backpack. I always thought they were plastic, can anybody shed any light on this for me?

I have two or three of the metal ones. They came out before the plastic ones. I think if you look carefully at the first couple of prototype chaos marines in WD (e.g. 'tentacle arm' and 'skullface', you can see that they have metal backpacks. The 'arms' at the top of the pack are slightly thinner and not as swept back. I think by the time the full range came out a year or so later, they had switched to plastic.
 
Yeah the 2 LE Chaos Marines (Later added to the normal range) came with the metal backpacks as did some of the first wave of renegades/power armoured Chaos Squats they were soon replaced with plastic ones though.

You could still get the metal ones via Mail Order for a short time though :)
