Mercury's Retro Kill Team

After seeing a little more of how other people post their threads here, decided to start a single thread for this project instead of doing one for each mini I paint.

The past few weeks I've been working on building a modern chaos legion kill team, but out of all oldhammer and middlehammer models.

First up is the Champion of Tzeentch, which I'll be using as a Balefire Acolyte, and he already got his own thread when I first joined:1000008036.jpg

Next up is my gunner with plasma gun, this one really isn't oldhammer, he's from 1996, but I really love this sculpt so I made an exception for him.

Then finally we have what I finished last night, a Realm of Chaos Renegade Heavy Weapons marine with Bloodletter Head, though his backpack is newer:

Been very fun to paint these so far, and I've got a minimum of three to go to complete the team with no extra options.

We all have our little fiefdoms! :)

Very much liking these, you've certainly mastered your florescent green! The chap with the plasma gun is positively glowing.
Thanks! He was the first one I did. Decided afterwards that the green would be the unifying accent color for the whole team.

Selected the next member, old three eyes. He's going to be the icon bearer, so I need to build him some sort of chaos icon to go on a backpack. I've got some chaos icon bits so it shouldn't be too much of an issue, just a matter of making something that doesn't look too ill fitting on him.

Oh, I'm thinking more about not picking things that look too out of place in terms of like, how detailed they are or how 'clean' they are. Most of my random chaos bits are plastic that's quite a bit newer than this guy, and I find sometimes when you mix up bits from different eras it sort of draws the eye to how different the styles are.

Lovely rich yellow on that backpack. Very nice.
Believe it or not, that's just the Iyanden yellow contrast paint over white. If you add more coats after the first it transitions from a nice bright yellow to a rich orange. It's great for things like Aquilas that you want to give that bright yellow you see on a lot of 2e era paintjobs and those that are trying to look like them.
