Melnibonean army - hardly a WIP

I've been collecting the old Citadel Melniboneans for a few years and after stripping the last of my Ebay purchases I decided to see what I'd got.

Took this pic back in 2013.

And now it's grown into this:

It's not exactly a WIP as I haven't the time to paint any of this lot up yet. Maybe one day. I did write up a rambling blog post about collecting the army though.

That is a lot of sickos!

What a horde.
I am most impressed with the sheer number of cavalry that you have.

You have twice as many Melniboneans as I do, I reckon, but I have bulked my list out with a few proxies, wardancers being traditional elf ones and my Merchant Company archers being Skarloc's mates.
I just wanted to get them amassed as quickly as possible so that I can get on with them.
I could not have waited the length of time that have.
That is serious patience.

I look forward to the day that you get painting them, but feel that it may take you some time as I do not believe that you have a painting level below 'Superb!'
Which is a good thing for me as once I see yours it may put me off doing my own.

When are you going to stop collecting them, as I decided 3000 pts was plenty and you already have that many?

I picked up the last of these last year and decided to call it a day at that. Being an obsessive sort I could expand the army a little. There's a bit about possible ideas at the end of my blog post. As far as painting any of it goes I think I'd have to take time off to have any hope of getting anything other than a few characters done.

Will you do command figures for your infantry? If so what standard bearer and musicians will you use?

The idea was to try and convert models for command so as to maintain the mono-pose style of the units. Standard bearers are pretty straight forward, officers might be easy enough, but musicians might require more skill than I possess to remodel.

For heroes I am using Eternal Champion figures.
I have used the old citadel elf command figures for the musicians and standards, some of which I shall be converting.
The Guard figures that I had cast up will be easy to convert.
Maybe I could do a couple of conversions at a time that you may find useful.
It would not be much more difficult than doing one after all.

I love the whole melnebonean range, and the elric stories. I am looking forward to seeing this done. If I can offer a suggestion it would be to go mental on the bases, so soem really iwerd 1970s retro fantasy thing.

Also, I fond this:

I painted a couple of Melniboneans years ago as test pieces. I wasn't happy with the colour scheme in the end but I made some hex paved bases for them. I was going for a ruined/crumbling city look. I might try and refine that idea a bit and put it on my list of bases to make. Might need a few suggestions on the best way to mould and cast stuff like that!
