Lizardmen & Chaos Warband

Hello all,

I'm not sure how much interest there will be in these, as most of the models will not be 'Old' oldhammer, but here is the start to my 5th Edition Lizardman army. Lizardmen are the faction that I grew up with when starting the hobby, but I didn't have the ability/patience to really enjoy them at the time so now I'm revisiting them.

In the long run, I'm planning to expand the army with more 5th edition models such as Terradons, Saurus Warriors, Temple Guard and a Stegadon. However, I'm also building up my stash of Old Lead including a few Slann, a small unit of Human Slaves, a Palanquin with human bearers, a couple of Culchans, a Coatl and some Giant Spiders, Scorpions, Snails and Leeches. I hope to keep this thread updated, although updates may be sporadic as I'm also working on other painting projects.

Re: 5th/3rd Ed Lizardmen

Nah, lovingly painted miniatures are always a hit with me at least...be they old, new, with or without hammer ;)

Right, a small update today to prove that I'm still working on stuff.

Finally finished off the skink hero Oxayotl:

And started work on my forces of Chaos, a trade for these two fell through, so I decided to keep them!

I'm pretty pleased with how the orange troll came out, although I'm not so used to seeing photos of my models so close up, it becomes really easy to see the roughness of the painting.

And my contribution to stuntie week:

I'm really hoping for some feedback on this one, I've never tried painting dark skin before so this is new ground for me. At this point I'm more than happy to strip and repaint, so what do you guys think? In particular, I'm concerned that I haven't highlighted enough and I'm not at all sure about the colour of the lips.

I had some time off with man-flu around the weekend, which can mean only one thing... lots of sleeping!

Err.. Okay, it can mean two things, lots of sleeping and getting some painting done too. I've been working on a Khornate warband and those who are interested can find the fluff/stats on my blog. But for those that just want the pictures:

Enjoy, and please leave feedback! I know these aren't the cleanest paint jobs (and I'm still not used to all these closeups!) but I quite like them.

The pygmie is really great and I think the colour of teh skni is just right. Maybe a glaze oin the lips to give a slightly warmer tone could work but you could live happy with him as he is now really.

The beastmen are splendid too. you taken the time to give them all a proper skin tone instead of batch painting them the same (most probably what I would have done) and it pays off. the archer with his yellow skin is absolutely right and the others work very well too. Teh gren tentacle is a bot 2 sided for me :

+ it gives a really strange look to the model and it is absolutely retro

- it attracts the look and becomes the most important part of the model, maybe a les saturated tone would have lowered that effect.

I'm obviously saying this because you're looking for feedback so these are just my 2 cents meant in the most constructive way.

The elf is really good with a original colour schem which is working very well.
On a general note, I love the definition of your painting, very clear and neat (very important points imo).

Thanks all for the comments, the feedback is really appreciated. The archer might be my favourite one so far too - I'm definitely going to try more inhuman skin tones in the future.

@Asslessman: I'm glad you raised the points you did as they are both things that stuck in my head when I was painting up the models. I'm not very happy with the tentacle arm really, I was going back and forth over the colour and I think I made the wrong decision overall. I found the green quite hard to highlight as well. A lesson on colour choice for next time.

I'm also going to revise the lips on the pygmies to make them seem 'fleshier' as it is definitely a focal point on the model. I may try for a lighter skin tone as well. We'll see!

Currently unnamed Thug - 'Chainmail and Garters' would be a great band name

I've also just noticed that I forgot to finish the eyes on the thug, this oversight will be corrected immediately. As always these are just the pictures, there is some blurb about these models on my blog if that's your cup of tea though.

Next up I should have some skaven and possibly a new model to represent my Dark Elf Assassin.

Lovely stuff, I am liking those chaos boyz a lot, the red really ties them together nicely and the bases are very suitable for the colour scheme.

As promised, it's decision time. Which of these two models (representing a Dark Elf 5 Hero - possibly an assassin) should be second in combat for my Khorne warband. Duties include cutting people up and stopping an accompanying unit of skaven from being frightened off the table by loud noises.

Answers on a postcard please.
