Liquid Resin clean up

ManicMan

Lord
I've had a great time this week.. a silicone mould which due to a slight mishap, only half cured (as in half of it has cured the other half didn't, leading it to be a right off) but the main problem is resin.. an old bottle of 2 part liquid resin.. the part which has the resin (this was a .. not a 50-50 mix i think.. can't remember.. been meaning to get rid of it but i discovered where it was sitting, it was now on the floor (which has carpet) and.. had a leak.. I didn't think too much had leaked but looks like maybe 200ml - 300ml has.. gotten rid of the bottle and what was left in it but now half a slightly damp (only slightly) feeling carpet where it's absorbed a bit. Tried to deal with it best I can with paper towels, some good carpet cleaning, vacuum cleaner and scrubbing. Need to fully clean some near by stuff which has bits of resin on them now but apart from the bit of a damp carpet, there is an issue of the smell... yeah..

Anyone got any nice tips for cleaning up a resin spill on carpet (apart from 'Don't have carpet there' and 'replace the carpet')?

I imagine some kind of solvent will be suitable, not sure which I normally start with isopropanol if in doubt! You could try giving https://www.cfsnet.co.uk a call. They were always very helpful with advice in the past when I used to buy more silicone, resin and other goodies (although not done much casting now for a few years). I imagine they might be kind enough to advise on your best course of action.

meant to reply to this ^_^ sorry.
It seams pretty.. absorbed in the Carpet with no visible signs on the carpet, which is fair enough.. problem is kinda still the smell and I'm bit unsure about using IPA (or more meth) on the carpet as.. that might might stain and be kinda worse..

haven't gotten around to contacting them.. probably might but it's being a minor issue right now.. smell is starting to go a bit ^_^;

You could try some activated charcoal/carbon to take out some of the smell. Although I guess containing it and not ending up with a very visible giant pile of black mess on the carpet would be paramount if you took that direction.

You could use coffee residue and put some kind of container over the spot. Usually works with refrigerator? Also, I think bicarbonate soda also work like for books and all. Of course, in both examples you use it small open container.
