Lenihan's Tom Meier showcase

In a recent thread I declared Tom Meier the greatest sculptor of all time. Greatest sculptor of miniatures anyway. I stand by this, his work over decades is remarkable. And while I'm not a fine painter by any means, my love of Tom Meier's work has brought out some of the painting I'm proudest of. So I thought I'd like to present a showcase of his work. Starting strong, this is his Swan Ship, a majestic sculpt from 1989.

Awesome sculpt and what a lovely job you've done on it, especially the Swan's face - nailed that perfectly. Along with getting the undertones into the feathers. Very nice. Any chance of a shot of the intrepid sailor, looks like rather a nifty sculpt in it's own right.

Having recently struggled with painting white feathers myself on a much more limited scale, that's amazing! The sculpt is indeed lovely too. A very realistic face on the swan. Is the sail sculpted or a cloth/paper addition?

Thank you. Yes, the swan feathers were a headache! The sail is sculpted metal, a single piece cast with the mast.

This is an old photo, but I'll get the swan ship out and do a close up of the sailor when I can soon, the cupboard where the swan ship is is inaccessible at the moment as we've piled up a load of pieces of a dismantled bed against it! I plan on taking it to BOYL this year anyway. (The swan ship, not the bed.) The sailor is not the original princess included in the set, mostly for the reason of keeping in scale with the rest of my elf army. Instead it's one of the set of Three Elven Kings Tom Meier did in 1988; here are the other 2 for now.

Hey, for years I looked in awe at his Thunderbolt mountain stuff, and when they annouced they were moving on to pastures new I panic brought a load of their wood elves, that I look at today and wonder how am I ever going to do those miniatures justice!

Here's a Tom Meier troll hound from the Ral Partha Things That Go "Bump" in the Night range c.1980. Who's a good boy? Can you honestly look into the eyes of this doggy and tell him you don't want him running with your pack of chaos hounds??

Would love to see him running with the hounds. Great stuff. The swan ship earlier in the thread is tremendous.
