Kobolds

I've scanned through the Bestiary in the rulebook, and through Armies, as well as StD and LatD but I can't find any reference to kobolds. Have I missed them? Are there any WD articles with stats for them, or does anyone have a suggestion for how I could deploy my Otherworld warband of the little devils so that they can escape the lead mountain?

Thanks chaps.

There aren't any Kobolds in Warhammer.

I use this statline.

They don't get any special rules, but they're fast and weak horde, so an interesting challenge.

Got to get Dreamfish to sort out the table formatting*

*did that, and retroactively changed my table :)

Hmm... I guess I see them as mini-beastmen, sort of like a goblin compared to an orc. While it is perhaps less flavourful, I think I'll start with the chaos goblin statline but if that doesn't satisfy I'll look at weakening a bestman. Thanks, gents

Heres a link to the D&D entry for Kobolds. Gives an idea of their character, such as needing to outnumber the enemy, hatered of Gnomes, general cowardice and liking to set traps. Any of those could just add flavour to whatever statline you come up with.

Ooh, I dunno, they should definitely be weaker than a Chaos Goblin, I was tempted to stat them as a kind of single-based skirmishing snotling, but it all got too complicated.

I'll update mine to Hate Gnomes (now that the Otherworld Adventurers, I actually have Gnomes) - thanks John! and re-reading the 1977 monster manual, some do have javelins, so BS0 was a bit wrong.

Working out PVs is easy:

or check the section in the Combat book of 2nd Edition.

Be interested to see what you come up with!

Ok, a first draft, then.

Kobolds are often mistaken by wandering travellers for some sort of goblin peculiar to the mountainous regions they call home, or as a spirit of some sort. The truth is a little more infused with the taint of Chaos, as those ensnared by kobolds find to their cost. With reddish-brown skin and faces somewhere between a dog and a lizard, along with a cruel and vicious temperament, the sign of Khorne is stamped lightly but noticeably on their dimunitive frames.
That being said, their small size does not allow them the same prowess as their distant kin, the man-sized beastmen who form the bulk of the blood god’s followers. Instead their behaviour is more goblin-like and unless they outnumber their foes they will often refrain from attacking. The main exception to this rule is their most hated foe and favourite food: gnomes. No other follower of Khorne would dare to lay a gnome skull on his altar, but a gnome is a worthy foe for a kobold and the offering is not refused!

2 models on a 25mm base:

Code:
       	M WS BS S T W I A Ld Int Cl Wp Pv
Kobold 4 2 2 2 2 2 3 2 5 5 5 5 8

Psychology: Hate gnomes
Fear any unit of Elves or Dwarfs they do not outnumber by 2:1

Chaos attributes: D4-3

I wasn't sure about the Khorne worshiping idea until I got to the end bit about the gnomes

Gotta love that. Now I think I have a foe worthy of my fledgling Gnome & Halfling army.

Khaos Kobolds ov Khorne! Love it. Explains their colour scheme too :)

How are you going to handle Minor Hero / Major Hero profiles with the 2 per base set-up and statline?

Thanks chaps; vicious little buggers was the vibe I was going for. I had images of "Gremlins" while I was pondering

As for the heroes and shamans.... not sure yet. I may go along the lines of a hero+bodyguard base and bump stats proportionately. The shaman might have a bodyguard, too? Some justification of two per base anyway.

time to get my AD&D range kobolds out :)

Someone do runequest ducks now, I have 5 of the little duckers

I'm sure I read somewhere that in early runequest ducks were code for hobbits which had been ruled out for IP reasons. As time when by less people knew the code and more true duck material mounted up until they became their own thing.

Of course this my be BS I just happened to have read but otherwise, why ducks? Always seamed a bizarre in joke to me with some people agreeing how great they were without actually getting the joke.

My Kobolds are based up on 20mm bases and I'll be using them effectively as weak stated goblins...

I need a little more guidance, fellas. How do I include a shaman in the theme I've gone for? It seems pretty clear that khorne=no sorcerers but I have a fabulous gnarled little kobold shaman model I want to use somehow. Is there any sort of suitably khornate way I could do this? :?

Use the Shaman as a ''Daemon-Talker'' rather then magic he's just the one which talks to Daemons and summons them.

Bingo! I like that. Would you stat him as a sorcerer, something else, or just have him as something "fluffwise"? Any sections I should look up to guide me further? (Still just dipping my toes into 3rd  )

I'd run him as a demi-fighter, so low level fighter stats but starts with 20MP to either bind Daemonic Hosts/limited magic and give him access to the level one Demonic Spells.

Read up on blood stones (slaves to darkness)!

Alternatively Khorne can have spell casters (slaves to darkness too) they just get nerfed if they cast anything. Perhaps the shaman is an utter outcast forever encountering Khornes displeasure but the tribe support him because of the needed magical muscle he brings.
