John Blanche Battle of Five Armies original artwork for sale

Advance warning that John Blanche's classic The Battle of Five Armies from the Tolkien Bestiary will be going up for sale in December.

No idea if it's a private sale, closed auction or eBay or what... anyone want to start imaginary bidding?

Looks like they're going to auction it rather than just waiting around until someone offers them shedloads of cash out of the blue.

Thanks for that. From communication I've had with the owner in the past, I suspect he's hoping to get a fair bit more than he's likely to...

Update: Apparently these will be going up for Auction at Sothebys on December the 9th, in an auction of English Literature, History, Children's Books and Illustrations.

Serious stuff!

It will be interesting to see what Sotheby's value the paintings at...and of course final auction prices. Have John Blanche paintings gone to auction before?

Seems to be where all the info gets posted first anyway, and it looks like they have other John Blanche illustrations that will sell for a lot less, biggest reason I'm following them
