Is superglue accelerator effective

My project to finally build and paint my Knightmare Games Pantheon of Chaos minis has reached a critical stage. I have at last got up the courage to build the larger pieces including the Demon Lord of Malice ( which we all know is really the Greater Demon of Malal but we won't say that will we ?).

So clearly this will require much serious pinning and gluing. I intend using Gorilla Superglue as it works well on smaller/ medium sized pieces but I wondered about applying accelerator as I have never used it before. Any advice on whether it iseffective, alternatives like baking powder? Thanks in advance.

superglue accelerator? the stuff dries in a 10-30 of seconds. I can't see the point. Though I would pin. Drill hole in one piece. Glue in the pin, drill hole in second piece, add glue to pin and edge, attach, hold for a few second and bingo.

I use Loctite for decent Superglue, though do use some cheap generic stuff for some things but often I find loctite is a decent good super glue which doesn't dry up right away and has good hold.

Oh much serious pinning will be required, thanks for the Loctite tip I'll give it a try.

Accelerator ist very effective. Depends on what you are after, though. Accelerator makes the super glue dry almost instantly. It will not strengthen the bond. It saves time holding pieces in place, waiting for the glue to dry.

Baking powder sprinkled onto super glue, or the other way around, dries into a hard substance which can strengthen the overall bond, but for me mainly acts as combined gluing/gap filling. And also bonds way quicker.

None of the two is an alternative to pinning though, when it comes to stability of the construction.

Used accelerator a lot for animation set work. It does work, but it's very messy. You always end up with the cyanide frosting. Green stuff and superglue dries almost instantly as hard as rock. Great for securing imperfect joins. Not a substitute for pinning but good in combo.

First post here. I've been working this morning on 3 lead Dragon Ogres from GW, pinning and using superglue with accelarator (in spray format) and that's a live saver.

It doesn't substitute the pinning for large, heavy bits, but it's extra hard and (if you master how the growing-frosting works) use it to fill some gaps, specially on the bases.

I started using the accelerator a year ago and nowadays I never use superglue on its own.

Superglue dries more quickly in a humid environment, so breathing on your setting piece will speed up the drying process. It may also be easier than picking up the accelerator bottle with your third hand whilst the main two are holding the work. :)

Just remember to to exhale not inhale kids! ;)
