In memoriam: Colin Dixon

I saw a number of posts recently on X about Colin's untimely death, e.g. by Warlord Games, and I thought it would be fitting for the Oldhammer Forum gang to eulogise him here too.

While rightly noted for his Heavy Metal output, I feel he didn't get the recognition he deserved for his later sculpting work. His Drunken Dwarfs and Halfling Scout for Mordheim are among my all-time favourite Citadel sculpts.

RIP, Colin.

That is sad news. Awesome painter, both of miniatures and art. If I remember correctly 2nd Edition Blood Bowl box art is one of his pieces.
I think the later miners are probably some of my favourite of his minis, I rather liked the candles on the helmets and "war pickaxes"

Aw.. that's a shame.. Only just finished my Poison Wind Globadier which was a Colin Dixon Sculpt.. and it looks like it was announced 2 days ago..

If I remember, he started off as a winner of one of the Design a Banner Contests which lead to be being hired by GW/Citadel until about early 2000s when he left them.

He can't have been that old.. maybe getting into the 60s?

Yes, I heard that too. Also that he was the first heavy metal painter.

59, I believe.
yep. Also.. I was a bit stupid.. checking Warlord's comment, He was born 1964, so yeah.. most likely 59 depending on date of birth in that year.

Oh, and there is a bit on the Perry Miniatures facebook page as they were good friends:

some nice photos of him there.
