Hey they're not sheep...

I have recently returned to my parents place after a fair bit of time away. One of my secret wishes was to sneak into the shearing shed, not to do some moonlighting as a shearer, but because it has become the place where old stuff gets "stored". Which translates to "put until it disintegrates enough to warrant being thrown out".
Well luckily for me lead miniatures don't disintegrate very quickly, because I have a whole host of goodies in there.
Check out some of this stuff that I saved:

These are the first miniatures I owned I think. It's the old citadel adventurers boxed set from 198? That I used to use for D&D games. I think a couple of them might be extras I added (the human thief on the end).
And these guys are the bad guys who always got hacked to death every weekend.

Next up are some Bob Olley Celtic warriors. They are stamped 1990 and the company is AA. I'm guessing that they weren't done while he was at Alcoholics Anonymous, but I'm not sure who AA were.

These guys will be more meat for my Death Blades grinder.

I'm not sure what I will do with that beastman.

While on the 40k theme:

It needs some TLC, but I think I'll be able to fit it into my Imperial Guard army somewhere.

Next are some barbarians. I've no idea who the manufacturer or sculptors were, as the bases have been filed flat. I use them as marauders along side my undead.
These are the start of me using ink washes, and they don't look too bad. I think they are from about 1990.

And these are the guys I was looking forward to finding the most...

The nightmare legion! I am so happy that they weren't thrown out, and are still in pretty good shape.
I have all 24 of them, which is great. Unfortunately the box was thrown out some time ago.

Here are some more random hangers on.

I used to have another 4 armoured skeletons like the one on the left, but I can't find them.

These are grenadier miniatures I think.

So I was very happy with what I've shown here.

Plus on top of this lot were a heap of other things, like space hulk, dark future, space crusade etc.
My brother disappeared into a room upstairs for a while, and re-emerged with thrugg bullnecks space ork raiders! He could only find 18, does anyone know if there were more than that?

Too cool Mat, I'm a sucker for Barbarian minis.

I see your DIY 40k vehichle has Macross/U.N. Spacy decals-awesome! (I'm also a sucker for Macross)

edit: I also got a good giggle out of the AA comment

AA was Alternative Armies and The barbarians are Grenadier from the very talented Mr Copplestone.

Loving the shampoo bottle grav tank.

Nice stash.

Yep, Throwers AA fight are Alternative Armies Sidhe (or Celtic elves with beards). Nice nostalgia trip! Sadly I know for certain my parents loft doesn't hold such treasures!

Good lord what a find ! I bet you'll keep a smile on our face for a good whole month with such a discovery !
The grav-attack is absolutely brilliant and has nothing to be ashamed of next to Rick's...
It's always a pleasure to see old lead coming back from the depths especially when it gets back in good hands.

On a personal nte I still hope that somewhere in my parent's garage lies a bog box with old WDs and some of my very first omdels but I've nearly abandonned all hope...

Cheers Bruno. I had an old transfer sheet from a model that I never finished(it was missing a couple of parts) so I added the transfers to the grav-attack vehicle.

Thanks Harry. I didn't realise who had sculpted them. They are pretty nice models. I used them as marauders/thugs, but their bases are cardboard and blu-tack. Things are different these days. They may need re-basing!

As for models made from hygiene products, well I can't add that to my nurgle army, so Death Blades it is!

Bearded Celtic elves. I thought their ears looked a little pointy. Thanks Axiom.

I encourage everyone to rummage through their parents garage if they get the chance!

And as a double post I thought I would share what else I've found, and what I've been up to.

Back in the day Ral Partha ( at least I think it was them) produced rubber moulds that you could fill up with molten lead and produce your own miniatures.
I had a skeleton one, which had moulds for three miniatures.
I made between twenty and thirty of each, which I painted up and stuck onto bits of cardboard.

I've removed the cardboard and temporarily put them on some plastic bases.

As you can probably tell the quality isn't fantastic. I think they will really benefit from a new paint job, and some more careful cleanup.
Some of the details are lacking. I should have pre heated the moulds or something. I wish I still had them. I've no idea where they've gone, or if you can still get them.

These ones are armed with two handed swords. I actually went to the trouble of flocking their bases.

These guys have swords and shields. I've sat all three units on bases to see how they would look. I think they will be suitable and warrant some further work.
It's a bit hard to see, but the front rank is 20mm individual bases, the middle two ranks are made up from three 40mm bases side by side, and the rear rank is a 60x20 base and three 20x20mm based. This means that I should be able to manage the casualties ok, but moving them shouldn't take me too long.

Also I've got a picture of the Nightmare Legion all ranked up. I think I will repair them in the green and yellow of the box.

i want to do this so that I can get out of my comfort zone and try something new. I would never dream of painting undead yellow and green really, so I look forward to seeing where the challenge takes me.

I found the guy on the right in my bits box. I guess he is a necromancer, but I'd like to run him as a vampire. I don't know if they can ride horses. I have the 3rd edition rule book, but I think the Warhammer Armies book is long gone.

0D1F35B7-7F21-4BEF-8A64-B2E3D944886E_zps0duozzo2.jpg

I also threw these guys on some bases. I have enough old plastic skeletons to get these guys up to 14, which is slightly more useful, and may actually remove a model when they shoot.

So that's what I've been up to, fun times with old friends :)

Nice find - Oh, how I wish - I could say the same about my parents old attic - unfortunately, they've now moved from the family home for a bungalow (easier on the knees/hips) s,o whatever was there when they moved stayed for the new residents!
Hey-ho, on the subject of Prince August moulds, don't rush to buy any, as I might have a set in my attic collecting dust - PM me your address and and if I have any likely candidates you're welcome to them.
