NSFW Gory Obscene Corpses? [Adult Content]

A "Not Safe For Work" prefix for content that might be a bit more risque.

So that warning work?

well.. I don't know if I'm just kinda desensitised or just aren't bothered by clearly not real stuff but.. I'm trying to make a banner (plug, you might know what I'm talking about more if you read my Blog post on my Plague Monks) which has a gory obscene corpse hanging on the banner. But .. well.. First I looked at some Zombies I got... but that doesn't look 'obscene'.. it's just rotting partly flayed flesh.. a bit worse then you see at a butchers but.. meat is meat. If any thing, I'm more bothered by animals like that then humans so... don't know..

Anyway, the pose for the figure is okay for hanging it on a banner but... it's just.. not something that would come to mind like that. So I wondered about some ideas.. maybe Giger? but no.. he is very techno-organic so doesn't really work.. I went through some... stuff that art and stuff of limbs and corpses (remembering my days of when Doom was a respected series... sigh..) tried looking at some Nurgle stuff that might give some ideas but... nothing really..

Like I said, I don't know if desensitised or just 'it's not really, so what is there to be bothered about?' I'm also thinking of having a word with a friend who does very gothic like ink art (well, partner of a friend) but nothing really that I think really jumps up at me..

Anyone have any good ideas or maybe point out some minis which might work for such a thing? I did wonder about taking skeleton and zombie bits but just can't figure out a design what really works well for this..

Well I'd hope you might find such things a touch disturbing! There are some "trophy" corpses here that might work for you:

I'm not sure I'd quite want my miniatures to actually be properly obscene, hopefully the "toy soldier" nature of even Nurgle stuff takes the edge off. I guess perhaps just the top part of a zombie and you can add some intestines via green stuff below that to make it suitable "obscene"?

^_^ Don't check up on Necrosis images but then.. i just find some of that stuff a bit interesting...

I know what you mean but.. hell, watch Alien.. That design is used in kids stuff.. yet it's design and what it was based on is a penis for a head, detailed body design which features ... alot of detailing and stuff.. design changes in that second film weren't.. great in my view (it's not a great Alien Sequel.. it's just a war film when the first was a erotic horror film). I think... mm.. trying to think of a good example of being or giving the impression of being very disturbing without really being truely that... I don't know.. like I said I'm just blanking alot..

but thanks, Looking at them, hopefully will help ^_^

To add more obscenity, go away from "standard male corpses".

For men at least, it seems that women are always a bit harder to look at as casualties (there are studies from the Israeli Defence Forces from mixed male/female units, where guys were wounded and everyone fought on, and a female soldier was wounded and all males flocked around her).

Use a child miniature, or a small miniature that might hint at a child.

Or hint more, than you show. If there is a mess of intestines and gore, with only a few discernible features, everyone projects their worst nightmares into it (old horror movie trick).

Oh, doesn't even need to be human.

trying to get zombies, skeletons or just corpses of anything other then human is pretty damn tricky.. you get some goblins and the odd dwarfs but... that's about it sadly.. people are very limited in their undead choices.

If you're folks are monks you might take inspiration from reliquaries. There's a convent down the street from me with some quite . . . creative displays. (And a couple of them are just about compact enough you could march them into battle.) They're not particularly "gory" but the very lavish decorations send chills down my spine. (Enough so that I wrote them into a bit of light horror fan-fic I wrote last year.)

So you know, my neighbors the dead children. (And the nuns constantly ringing their bells.)

The pros: You could probably make something like S. Aurelii. M. or S. Vincentii M. from a plastic skeleton, bits of wire, beads, and green stuff. Cheap and cheerful. Making something that looks real could make it more chilling. Make it look like a kid or a woman for extra effect. And since they're all M. (for Martyrus, I believe) you could outline the would as got them their status in gold or scarlet. (Even the wound is holy, right?)

The cons: Not terribly gory. Might be hard to make it feel "real" enough for the effect in miniature. Not particularly "plaguey" unless you really play up the boils and pox on a mumified corpse under glass.

Some things to think about, anyway.

^_^; nice Dread, despite the pilot (I have no clue why I just hate the pilot for that model but.. I do. That's a great paint job on him but I just don't like the sculpt.

I don't know if Realistic is quite right but I have a couple of ideas and have started on something. kinda could do with a bit more of a base for bits but have made a start with some sculpting and stuff too so lets see how it goes ^_^

Thanks!
And I gotta admit, I agree on both counts, haha.
The complete dread with the extra body ring and weapon mounts or the short legged stocky ariant - there's not a lot to like there. It's only after I grasped the concept of 'weaponized humpty dumpty' that the dread came together for me.
Having assembled the mini, I also am quite impressed by the snug fit of the pilot. You can just drop him in the hole and he'll fit perfectly. I find the model-making skill thatwent into the sculpt quite impressive

I rather like the way you've blended the ball and socket arm joints - making it look much more cohesive with the rest of the model - I shall have to copy that approach on my own dreads when I eventually get to them. Lovely (gory) work.
