• Welcome to the Golden Gobbo painting competition. If you'd like to read some of the ancient history you can on the Realm of Chaos 80s blog.

This competition is held some years and you'll find threads here describing how to enter and when the competition is running (typically after BOYL each year).

Other than the fame and wonderment of your peers there is often a prize kindly donated and you'll have the wonder of being awarded badges for your profile here.

Re: Golden Gobbo 2021?

Want to say yes… what would be the set up? Single figure, large monsters, regiments etc or just a free for all?

Re: Golden Gobbo 2021?

We usually say one figure, but as there are always some talented gits to decide to ignore that I am going to change the rules this year.

You can enter ONE BASE. It doesn't matter how many figures are on it or what they are but the restriction is ONE PLASTIC GAMING BASE (so no dioramas, terrain etc. unless you can make it fit on any of the commercially available plastic gaming bases).

Ok, looks like we have a runner.

RULES AND SUBMISSION INFO FOR THE GOLDEN GOBBO COMPETITION 2021-

What is it?
The Golden Gobbo is a low-key, free-and-easy painting competition with 'competition' being quite a loose term.

What can I enter?
You can enter ONE BASE. It doesn't matter how many figures are on it or what they are but the restriction is ONE COMMERCIALLY-AVAILABLE PLASTIC GAMING BASE (sorry, no MDF or home-cut bases. Resin bases are OK. You can mount your base on a plinth if you like.)
Dioramas, terrain, big monsters etc. are ok provided you can make them fit on any of the commercially available plastic gaming bases.

How long have I got?
You have until midnight on the 30th November to submit your entry.

How do I submit?
Post at least one picture of the base and its contents with a plain background in this thread. You can include a bit of back story if you like and can submit as many extra pictures as you like, including backgrounds if you wish. If you submit loads of pictures we'll streamline them for the voting thread.

How does judging work?
Once entries are closed I will create a blog post of all the submissions and link it to a voting thread on this forum board. Members of the forum can vote for their favourite entry, most votes wins. Voting will close at midnight on the 12th December.

Do I win anything?
Yes. I mean, that's not really the point, but of course. You can't have a competition without prizes! There's the respect and admiration of your peers but I will also find a suitable trophy and item for the top three entries.

Good luck!

This can't be right I'm the first to submit a challenge mini, I'm usually at the coo's tail. Any way here's my submission Prodsaloatl and his trusty companion of the great coastal city of Saltxoats coastwatch keeping the city safe from marauding (or should that be Marauder) norse Dwarfs. He's a Tom Meier CP4 Lizard Warrior with his broken halberd replaced with a spear accompanied by a Ral Partha (?) lizard on a resin stand. As always comments and criticism welcomed.

Here’s my entry. If it’s okay I’ll attempt to take a better photo and replace by 30 November, but he’s here today so that I don’t forget!

Looking great! What have you added on shaman?
Thanks! Well, if you can't tell what's been added, I consider that a sign of a conversion well done :)
Seriously, though - I added the skull chains to his staff, spear with attachments, spellbook and sculpted the skull faceplate for his boar.

Nice! Can’t remember name of this model, was it the Doom roller? (Or is that a blood bowl dwarf thing?) Had one while I was working at GW but never assembled or painted. Very impressed at what’s been posted so far - looking forward to seeing a few more entries before the deadline.
