Goblinoid flesh tests

With the scifi projects for BOYL coming to an end I'm feeling the need to do some fantasy for a change. I haven't got a proper fantasy army, my Brets being an Historical army that's been converted. I've gathered enough figs together for a chaos army and a greenskin army. My goblinoids are not your normal orcs and gobbos (although there will be couple of units of these eventually) however and mostly consist of Hobgoblins with a smattering of Half-orcs and Black-orcs. As such I need to decide on skin colours for these guys as it just doesn't sit right that a goblinoid would be orange. So I've been messing around and came up with this.

On the left are two half-orcs and on the right two hogobs (well, one is a old Uruk-Hai but I'm using him and his buddies as Hobyars)

With the Half-orcs I was going for a humanoid skin with a hint of green. I was happy enough with this to do the flesh of the whole unit in this colour.

With the Hobgobs I went for a yellower shade and I'm pretty happy with it. The photos really rob any subtlety from the colour but I reckon this is the one I'll go for.

I really love the colour yoyu've used for the hobgobs. The yellowish tone adds a sick vibe to it and the contrast between pale skin and strong shadows adds a really oldschool look which just fits these models fine !
The half-orcs are also very good but they lack the contrast and definition when compared to the hobgobs. They're different species but (just my opinion) I'd highlight the half-orc skin a bit more.

I like the hobgob colour. For the half orcs I was thinking of doing a variety of skin tones, some more human than others, some more orcish. You've got a good half way colour there.

Nice and subtle yet also with good contrast.

My hobgoblins may well end up orange, possibly with blue noses but who knows.

Half orcs as JJ says will be a range of colours ranging from orc green to human flesh tones.

Those LOTR sculpts are really nice, a chap on ebay is flogging a load of the warg riders at the moment, about £6 a pop which isn't too bad, they'd fit in with the motley crew you've decided to go for.

Some of the half orcs do look a little brighter but I'll do an extra hi-light tonight and see how it looks. As far as the warg riders go, it's a shame there is only one pose. I've got a unit of 10 of the newer hobgob wolf riders (the ones that went with the big hat Chaos Dwarves) and I've got 5 of Oglah Khans wolfboys who are a bit closer to the older style but I need another five (when I say need, we all know that it's a nerd need not a real need!).

Add another vote for the Hobgob scheme mate.

I'm guessing it's something along the lines of goblin then scorpion green with bad moon yellow highlights?

Embrace the mono-pose. They can really look fantastic with the only variation coming from the paint job.

@ Count von bruno - Actually it's Foundry Austrian gun ochre triad with a wash of coelia green as a mid stage before three more highlights.
