Gimbrin Finehelm and his new band....

I've just finished painting some old models. When I bought them back in 1980 something Gimbrin came with some regular dwarfs of the time. I've played the scenario many times over the years and always wanted some more miner like models. I found some original sappers on ebay a few weeks ago. Now I'm no great painter, but these came out quite well so I thought i'd share....

Here's Gimbrin on his own...

And just to show I've how improved over the last 25 years here my early attempt....

Three Gimbrins is just greedy.

Love all of them including the old one. Give him some love and base him up too.

I'm not sure how I ended up with three. I think the old paint job will see some Dettol sometime, he was based at one time, there's still some old flock stuck to the tab.

And it was all about bloody weapons in my teens...

Very nice, I have to say even the old version was nice to watch, I think we all did the bloody weapons thing at some point :D.

I love the dark tone on them, it ties them all and it somehow gives them a very good RPG capacity (don't know why but I always tend to prefer my RPG models darker than the army ones)

No don't dettol him! He is just great as he is, blood included stick some flock on him and prize him above all others. There is something that completely encompasses the spirit of oldhammer about him.

I think I'm going to adopt a new painting style for a new army, retro 80's teenage blood splat style I shall call it.

It's an easy style, limit yourself to 9 colours, use a big brush and get the paint on as thickly as you can.

I'm sure I've got some old flock around somewhere, with some goblin green paint i'm sure i can give old Gimbrim back his base....

Funny how the first time I read someone saying "thin your paint" was in the late 90's, before that it seems it was so obvious to 'eavy metal artists they never emphasised this point... I must have read something about it in 98ish in an interview of golden demon multiple winner Bruno Grellier where he explained one had to thin your paint until it had the consistency of milk => greatest shock and greatest pianting tip EVER

After years and years of reading to water/thin down your paint, I was too bone lazy to do it until recently
Now I get it!

On topic, keep the vintage paintjob!
