From a gamer to gamers about... gamers! What do you need?

I'm gearing up to take Tripods! and Oakbound Miniatures to the UK Games Expo in May and am thinking about little promotional items I can offer to help spread the word about the company. I don't want something people are going to stuff in a drawer and forget about, I want something that people will look at and go "Hey! That's exactly what I needed!" So what is it? What's the inexpensive, batch-producible, absurdly simple thing that every gamer needs and hasn't yet been done to death? I guess this is primarily aimed at board gaming, but to gamers in general a valid question.

Tape measures are out, too expensive.
Dice likewise.
Pencils are useful but a bit dull.
I'm running low on ingenuity! :?

How about a cup mat (if i have the terminology right) mass produced and always lying around on a table ready to catch the eye.

Re: From a gamer to gamers about... gamers! What do you need

Dice cups? Dice bags? If actual dice are too expensive I suppose these are too?

Cork coasters... they can be used as coasters, as terrain bases and also as actual building materials. Maybe not what you had in mind for your branded merch though...

Hm. Pens or pencils are nice and always needed. Propelling pens (straight off google translate... you know the ones that look like pens but have a graphite rod) maybe?

Bookmarks. For rulebooks. I'm not the type to stick post-its in my rulebooks, I don't like sticky things - but maybe bookmarks in different colours...?

I know what I would love: stickers. Or rather my son (who has just finished Reading the Tripod-series) would og bananas over some Tripod-alien style stickers. And they would end up all over tha house as a constant reminder of Your game :).
All the best,
Kasper

What about things that can serve as markers? I've seen things that serve as wound counters, damage counters, suppressed - that sort of thing? Charge arrows, target markers - perhaps you can distil a generic set for a broad variety of games?

Re: From a gamer to gamers about... gamers! What do you need

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming!

There are going to be over 8000 visitors passing through over three days so I need things that can be done in huge quantities on the very cheap, but so far I'm liking the coaster idea and the stickers, and quite up for making some objective markers that needn't be too complex or expensive to run from dental plaster in silicone moulds....

Re: From a gamer to gamers about... gamers! What do you need

How about giving away a voucher code for 5% off on a order on a business card/book mark or naked pictures of yourself :)

Re: From a gamer to gamers about... gamers! What do you need

Don't think my profit margins can stand 5%... luckily if I put a picture of me naked on them nobody will take them!

So I had a bit of a brainwave and my plan is to have

a) some shields cast in dental plaster- nice and quick and easy and can have the 'folk' designs from The Woods on them for advertising the miniatures range
b) player turn markers/bonus counters with selection of Tripods and Oakbound-related images

+1 for this. It definitely adds flavour to games and identity.
